This is interesting. A press release just got outed by Apple’s PR website, presenting the new release of the safari desktop browser, Safari 5. There’s a claimed 30 percent increase in speed, much like the iPhone 4′s version, and the debut of the Safari Reader. There’s also the ability to completely nuke Google search as the default option and choose Bing. Interesting. Press release below the break.

HP Slate is a piece of dead meat too (nearly)
by Stefan Etienne on 30. Apr, 2010 10:36AM in Hardware, HP, Tablets, Windows

Aww, come on Microsoft! First the Courier gets the good ‘ol boot, and now the HP Slate gets the slapping as well? According to my not-so-well-acquainted colleague Mike Arrington over at TechCrunch, the HP Slate is dead, much like the Courier and was confirmed by sources also in the know about the project. Not only this would be the biggest flop I’ve seen with my eyes in the mobile industry, but would be an enormous disappointment by HP as a company. I’ve reached out to HP for comment, and will update this post if I hear from them.
ASUS Eee PC 1201N Review
by Stefan Etienne on 23. Mar, 2010 7:00PM in ASUS, Laptops, Reviews, Windows

While most blogs go berserk (hello CTIA and HTC EVO 4G!) and write about upcoming Androids (which isn’t bad at all), we’ll take just a little bit of time today to bust a new review out the door. A prime showcase is the ASUS Eee PC 1201N. Complete with a dual-core Atom CPU, 12.1-inch panel, Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB of RAM, and an island-style keyboard, there’s a lot to love here, especially the light weight. Full review after the “read more” link.
Check Out the ExoPC Tablet, aka One Of The iPad-Killers
by Stefan Etienne on 10. Feb, 2010 9:28AM in Gadgets, Tablets

Right now with the iPad looming about, all companies who can produce a good tablet are taking the challenge. Besides the JooJoo, HP Slate, and others, the ExoPC is another slate competing for dominance. Complete with Windows 7 Professional and the finger-friendly ExoPC UI Layer, it’s a tough tablet to beat: Apps, Flash (yes, it has it), 8.9-inch multitouch screen, a 1.3 megapixel camera, Intel Atom CPU, 32 GB SSD, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, SIM slot for 3G, SD card reader, 3-USB, ports, VGA, and weighs 1.8 lbs. And before you say it, it does look strikingly similar to the iPad. More info on it here.
[Thanks, Jean!]
HTC HD2 will get specs jump for US release
by Stefan Etienne on 24. Jan, 2010 3:26PM in HTC, Mobile, Windows
Looks like the HTC HD2 will get 1GB of ROM and 576 of RAM for its US release on T-Mobile, while the overseas model only has 512MB ROM and 448MB RAM. The US-bound model will also get a bigger storage card: 16GB instead of the quaint 2GB for the global model. You might think is perfect: a phone that you want will only get better once it comes out. Think again, carefully: according to speculation from not too long ago, Windows Mobile 7 requires more RAM and ROM. Exactly, the HD2 might get WM 7 at the Mobile World Conference next month. Leaked Goldmine of Lenovo Laptops for CES Come Ashore
by Stefan Etienne on 03. Jan, 2010 12:50PM in Laptops, Leaks, Lenovo

“What were we supposed to do at CES again?
“Launch these new Lenovo laptops, that’s what”.
“Can I publish it now?”
“No, no! Don’t do it yet, or else they’ll find out!”
“Oops.”
Too late. In the gallery below, here are all the Lenovo laptops that were scheduled for a CES release. Looks like someone at Lenovo hit the Publish button too early. Some of the laptops in the leaked pages include: the ThinkPad Edge, T410s, W510, and others. [Via Engadget]
Microsoft hiring Xbox LIVE manager for Windows Mobile
by Stefan Etienne on 30. Dec, 2009 7:23PM in Microsoft, Windows

Bringing Xbox LIVE to Windows Mobile handsets has always been a dream of well — Windows Mobile users. And a recent available job position at Microsoft might be all the confirmation we might need. Microsoft is currently looking for a Principle Program Manager to “bring Xbox LIVE enabled games to Windows Mobile” and is someone who “will focus specifically on what makes gaming experiences “LIVE Enabled” through aspects such as avatar integration, social interactions, and multi-screen experiences”. This obviously means that Xbox LIVE is headed to Windows Mobile, and this might even be Microsoft’s savior for Windows Mobile.
