Nexus One hardware costs $174.15 to build, multitouch included

Way to go Google. Or sort of. According to iSuppli, the Nexus One costs $174.15 to build. The 2 -year contract makes the Nexus One price ring up to $179.99, and the unsubsidized? $529.99. Which makes me wonder: why the heck does the unsubsidized model costs so much? Not giving money every month to a carrier might be why, but come on? To break it all down, here’s exactly what Google spends money on to make each Nexus One:

  • 1GHz Snapdragon ($30.50)
  • AMOLED display ($23.50)
  • Memory ($20.40) from Samsung
  • Bluetooth and 802.11n WiFi transceiver costs $8.20
  • $12.50 on a 5 megapixel camera
  • Interestingly, Google has spent $17.50 on what’s described as “capacitive multitouch touchscreen assembly” from Synaptics.

So basically every person who buys a Nexus One pays for multitouch, but doesn’t get it? Google, I want my multitouch now.

People pay for it Google. Loosen up already.

Nexus One Gets a Teardown, Reveals 802.11n Wi-Fi and FM Transmitter

Who knew? Even though up there I have a banner explaining the Nexus One, I didn’t know about this myself! iFixit (as usual) has teardowned the poor Nexus One to pieces and made 2 interesting discoveries. One, according to the Google spec page, the N1 has a 802.11n Wi-Fi transmitter, even though HTC only lists it as 802.11b/g. Two, there’s an FM transmitter as well. Other things of interest found is a Samsung-branded OLED display, Qualcomm QSD8250 “Snapdragon” 1 GHz ARM processor, Synaptics touchscreen controller. Then there’s the Broadcom chip labeled Broadcom BCM4329EKUBG, which is what provides Wi-Fi to the Nexus One. Hit the source link for the full teardown.

Dell Mini3i phone for China has no Wi-fi or 3G, but it's real

500x_dellmini1_01

The cellphone Dell has made for China Mobile is no modern phone at all. It has no Wi-fi or 3G, but it does have a 3.5 inch touchscreen and Micro SD slot, as well as a 3.2 megapixel camera. Andriod Open Base Mobile System is the OS it houses, with that shiny Dell logo on the back, 2 volume keys, and a resolution of 360 x 640.

I don’t like it too much. No 3G? No Wi-Fi?? No release date yet for China, and hopefully none for the US.

Come on Dell, no 3G??
