With T-Moible and Sprint quiet about this whole Windows Phone 7 “Will it ever launch?” thing, AT&T has pretty much established itself as premier carrier, putting devices (Samsung and HTC for starters) that will be launched on the network in direct fire of the iPhone 4. What’s more now is that Verizon won’t have any Windows Phone 7 handsets at launch, or this year.
They’ll start in 2011. Which isn’t too far away, but still, peculiar. Perhaps VZW wants to bang out a few more Droids first?
The more factual response is actually what Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney mentioned to Bloomberg: [our] “relationship with Microsoft is solid”. So it is then!

So the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate (I made it longer on purpose, I know that) is now confirmed for a release on the premier United States phone carrier, Verizon Wireless. For $199.99 on a 2-year agreement (and a prepaid version also available, much like the DROIDs), the Fascinate will hand you a 1GHzh Hummingbird processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED, Android2.1 with Touchwiz 3.0 interface, and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash; something both the Captivate (AT&T), and Vibrant (T-Mobile) are both missing.
And with that, Samsung will have completed its U.S invasion of Galaxy S phones. Now to get down to reviewing one, eh?

What have we here? The new king of Droids, actually. This report is coming to you at 12:21 AM Eastern time, so bear with me here. Essentially what’s going on is that the Android slider that made an EVO 4G look small is back, this time being tested by the FCC. The possible specs of the HTC PD42100 (it hasn’t gotten a “proper” codename) are CDMA 2000 and GSM 850 plus Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n WiFi at 2.4GHz frequencies. And then a 1.2GHz processor or 4-inch display with removable battery. This thing is a monster, and I can’t wait to try it out for myself.
I mean, LaptopMemo, the site, the readers; my audience. Of course.

Recently Verizon has had a puzzle game you can play. It requires vast knowledge of the Star Wars trilogy and some free time. Basically, if you’re the first person to find and figure out the puzzle, you get a R2-D2 special edition DROID 2. In the meantime, yesterday’s winner David H. found some press pics of the Droid 2′s R2-D2 dock, which doesn’t look like an X-Wing, has no missiles, cockpit, grappling hooks, etc. (you get the idea).
But it’s still awesome looking.

So Verizon Wireless has done something very interesting and very new (in their case). By offering a prepaid plan on all of their new smartphones, Droid Incredible, Droid 2, Droid 1, and Droid X included, customers will be flocking in on Spetember 28th when sales begin. An unlimited 3G data plan will run you at about $30, and a voice plan on top of that should probably end up at paying $60-70 a month for a brand new spanking smartphone, without a 2-year agreement.
And to honor this post, I will be striding into a Verizon store on the 28th to go ahead a buy myself a Droid X, Incredible, Droid 2, or just get all three.

So what did Boy Genius & Friends do today? Well in this case, some tasty tipster leaked out these shots which display in crystal-clear quality the HTC handset that is very much EVO 4G-like, but instead headed to Verizon. An 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, front-facing camera, Sense UI, and has a built-in kickstand. Whatever it might be called, I’ll want this as a review unit in my office. Expect a report of some sort on this handset between the end of this week, and early next week. I am planning something interesting here y’know?

While a lot of you may have heard of Mashable’s story regarding Android 2.2 frozen yogurt coming to the Droid Incredible on August 18th, I’ve recently spoken to a very experienced Verizon ninja who has yet to fail me, and says the it will begin rolling out “at the end of “the month. It will bring Flash 10.1 ,720p HD video recording, a boatload of other improvments, and of course, the gloating aspect where you can say “My Droid has Froyo! on it”.

So the Motorola DROID was the slab of rock that turned into a beautiful scuplture, forever stamping Android into the realm of successful smartphones, forever .This time, Motorola has challenged itself, and released the DROID 2. And honestly, it’s set on the right path:
- The overall rounded body gives better contour and feel.
- The speed offered by the new 1 GHz processor is easily recognizable.
- The MOTOBLUR UI seen on the DROID X with Android 2.2 is very cool.
- The slide-out QWERTY has the same feel as on the Droid 1 — except a trillion times more practical and better.
- It still remains uber-geek, and uber-cool, even for those new to technology.
According to the Verizon rep (who is now an official ninja for LaptopMemo now) besides some VZW secrets I’ll share with all of you later this week, the DROID 2 has been selling. As he said “people are buying it a lot”. Of course that’s not including my favorite thing – numbers, but he’s a Verizon ninja, so let’s take his word for it. Check out the gallery below for shots of the DROID 2!
