HTC On Android 2.2 Update: All Of Our 2010 Devices Will Get It

In your excitement over Android 2.2 “FroYo” launching, there is one solid doubt left: when will you be able to use the goshdarn thing? So that’s when AndroidCentral pinned HTC for comment on that, and here’s what they got:

“…if your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can’t be more specific yet.

This meaning that 2010 devices like the Droid Incredible, EVO 4G, HTC Desire, HTC Legend and myTouch Slide should all get the update, in Q2 of this year, since HTC per usual, must update the Sense UI, bit by bit, piece by piece, eternity after eternity. On the other hand Nexus One owners will probably get the update first, since they are stock Android, hardcore Google Phone users.

Android 2.1 update now rolling out to Sprint Hero

At long last!

Yes indeed. It’s been a saga. There was a first time, second time, third, fourth, and then even fifth delay of the Android 2.1 Sense UI update for the Sprint Hero. And guess what, my Sprint Android friends? The over-the-air update (OTA) is now rolling out, gradually to all owners. And not only that, but your version of Android is now longer a boring “Cupcake”, but now you’re in style with “Eclair”.

Until Android 2.2 “FroYo” comes out. Then, you’ll be screwed.

Samsung Moment Fetches Android 2.1 From Sprint. Officially.

Sprint has spoken! The Samsung Moment, an Android phone begging for Android 2.1 for months, has finally gotten it, as a download from the official Sprint site, meaning that this is an official update, but not OTA (over-the-air for you non techy). What’s more is that that it will wipe out everything on your phone. EVERYTHING!

Ahem.

So make sure to backup all of your apps, useless photos of your dog in your shirt, videos, ringtones, and stuff like that.  Text messages can’t be backed up to the cloud or locally, either; they’re pretty much dead. If you are ready and willing though, Sprint has the update right here so you can get started.

Motorola Milestone Finds Salvation With New Android 2.1 Update

“Finally!” That’s what some of our UK readers might be saying in typical British accent. The Motorola Milestone (known as the Droid to the Yankees) will be getting an over-the-air update that brings Android 2.1 known as “Eclair” to all UK devices. Meaning that the latest and greatest version of Android will be at your fingertips…until Froyo comes along. And if you’re extremely impatient, Motorola has been kind enough to host the update here.

Want to manually update your Droid to 2.1? Yeah, you can do that.

One thing that is a wonderful addition to Android devices is the ability to make something impossible, possible. For example, you might be stuck with Android 2.0.1 on your Droid while reading this, but it doesn’t mean you have to have Android 2.0.1 running on your Droid while waiting for the OTA to spread across the country. Due to some nice work by the all-too-cheerful Greg Kumparak, over at MobileCrunch, this happy-go-lucky gadget blogger will show you how to update your Droid without any hacking, or modding. Just pure Android 2.1 with multitouch. Hit up the source link, dudes.

First Look: Palm Pre webOS 1.4 update now on Sprint, O2, and Movistar phones

A mere 39 megabytes download. I was quite surprised when I booted up the Updates app and found what I was looking for. Should you have a Sprint Palm Pre, or one on O2 or Movistar, you’ll have access to this  OTA update. So to figure out how good the new features are we took a good look at our review unit. Now we’ve found that:

  • Apps really do load a million thousand times faster.
  • There’s video recording of course which works and looks like a charm.
  • Improved call log.
  • Notification light (we haven’t seen that yet though).
  • Apps have the same startup look as you boot the phone; nice touch BTW.
  • Multitasking has greatly improved. The record for the most apps on a Pre used to be 10. For us? 21 apps simultaneously.
  • Looks like better battery life so far.
  • We haven’t seen the Flash app or plug-in on the App Catalog. Yet.

In our upcoming Sprint Pre review we’ll go over more details, but in the meantime, get one of the best updates that you’ll probably see on your Pre for a while. Full changelog and promo vid after the break for you dudes and dudettes.
