Hands-On With The Cr-48 Chrome Laptop!

Either this is surprise package day here at LaptopMemo HQ, or the tech gods are happy with us. In came the CR-48, Google’s reference hardware for Chrome OS. Right off the bat I’ve unboxed it, and found that the setup is extremely fast and easy, that all my bookmarks, apps, and history are available, and that this will be one of the most interesting tests I’ve done for a laptop.

The built-in camera works relatively smooth, the matte screen can be pretty (very) bright, and of course, the island-style keyboard is very comfortable (reminds me heavily of the Macbook Air and black Macbook). And as most reports have confirmed, the touchpad sucks, so I’ve connected the Tron Razer mouse which I reviewed earlier, and guess what? It works! The VGA port I haven’t used yet, and the SD card slot confuses me (don’t know where to browse the contents of the card). The USB works very well though.

Now if you’ll excuse us, it’s time to have lunch, and start extensively testing the CR-48. Check out the gallery below while I’m doing that and you’re — doing something.

Samsung Mesmerize Unboxing

Turns out this is exactly like the Samsung Fascinate, which I reviewed, and liked but despised the option of no Google Search by default, or being available at all for that matter. U.S Cellular is a regional only carrier with service in 26 states (not Florida, but it’s roaming on 3G, possibly on Verizon) and is the fifth major carrier, the fourth being T-Mobile USA. Reviewing the Mesmerize will be a lot like reviewing the Fascinate, since the specs are exactly the same, except for one thing: It does have Google Maps and Google Search, by default.  Unboxing is below!

Samsung Epic 4G Unboxing And Hands-On

This upcoming unboxing is the last of the day and is the Samsung Epic 4G, the top-tier model of the Galaxy S line. What makes the Epic 4G so much better than its Galaxy S siblings is Sprint 4G (still rolling out to most of the U.S, I know), a front-facing camera, and a slide-out QWERTY. The 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, and 5 megapixel primary camera with 720p HD recording are still here, specs shared by the entire line of phones. As usual, the gallery is below and unboxing after the chop (see what I did there?). And yes, this is another review to write. I can keep up.

It will retail for $29.99 on November 3rd when it launches, and above I unbox almost a full 2 weeks before launch. The Optimus T borrows all new features from Android 2.2 sans Flash 10.1 support, since I can’t find it in the Android Market. Otherwise, everything that you’ve come to love about FroYo is included.

LaCie MosKeyto Overview (video!)

Remember that small, inexpensive, 6mm USB 2.0 flash drive called MosKeyto, built by LaCie? Well, here it is in our sweaty palms, ready to be tested with over 22GB of photos and videos. This tiny little gadget is almost unboxed above, but although to some technical difficulties (read: me not charging the DSLR), we’ve had to resort to the Samsung Fascinate’s 720p HD video recording camera.

Also, this particular model is the 4GB version that retails for $18, an 8GB variant that goes for $28, and lastly a 16GB MosKeyto that has yet to be priced. Another feature worth noting of is that the MosKeyto comes with 4GB of free online storage, but first requires you to signup using the serial number of the hardware.

Stay tuned later this week for the full review!

Samsung Fascinate Unboxing (video!)

Samsung’s Fascinate just arrived in the mail today, just as planned and hoped, thanks to the guys and gals at Samsung. So far the Fascinate only uses Bing search as previously documented, but it hasn’t acted up to be an annoying experience.

Quick recap of the specs: 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen, Android 2.1 with Touchwiz 3.0 (Samsung’s UI offering), a 16GB microSD card, and finally 5MP camera with 720p HD capture. Unboxing is above, available in sweet HD.
