Nexus One “won’t be carried by Verizon”, says Verizon? (update: Wrong. Great.)

Talk about confusion, or maybe strange PR emails. In my quest of finding out whether or not the Nexus One by Google and HTC will ever head to Verizon; with that “coming soon” option on the Google Phone Store sitting there forever, what I found might have some doubts of whether or not a PR contact that I have at Verizon Wireless is speaking the direct truth from their superiors, but here’s what came up in the reply field:

“Thank you for your question. Google’s Nexus One phone will not be carried by Verizon Wireless. You will have to contact Google directly for any information. It would be inappropriate for me to answer questions on a phone that Verizon Wireless won’t sell.”

This could simply mean that Verizon just won’t sell the Nexus One in its retail stores, and that Google, as previously rumored, would take care of that. But that extra line, “Google’s Nexus One phone will not be carried by Verizon Wireless,” is a little strange to me, and probably wrong (hopefully?). While I try to get more info on this, I’ll leave this to the Internets to discuss. And no troll flaming guys.

UPDATE: You could definitely say that VZW will support the Nexus One, but won’t sell it, and Google will. So that’s that, I guess (?). Now onto the usual programming…

HTC: Don’t put your Nexus One in your pocket. Oh really?

Just as a case in point, the headline is nearly exactly what HTC said. Moving on to the story, Crave UK loved their Nexus One, until one day it appeared with the purple screen seen above. According to Crave, the Nexus One was innocently charging on a desk. They also swore that they didn’t kill their wonderful Nexus One, and couldn’t understand how it ended up in a purple coating. So Google encouraged them to contact HTC; problem is HTC was stumped. But then they pressed on and got this response from Mr. Clever HTC Support Guy:

“Putting a phone in a tight pair of jeans and sitting down would usually cause that kind of damage,” and “People sometimes forget that they don’t go in pockets.”

Could you please put that by me again? A phone can’t go into a pocket you say? On the flipside of things, CNET UK recieved a new Nexus One courtesy of HTC, and said they’ll be watching this one.

This better not happen with the Nexus One we just got yesterday from Google .

AT&T suing Verizon for “Map ad”, because it’s confusing to “some” people

mapforthat

AT&T is suing Verizon because AT&T claims that due to the “There’s a Map for That” ad that Verizon is running, it makes the coverage they provide look like nothing. AT&T also claims that the ad shows AT&T has almost no 3G coverage across the country. Now here’s the interesting part of this story: When you look at AT&T’s claims, you would think that there is basically no phone coverage at all that AT&T provides. But now to the facts: the map only represents 3G coverage and video. Not basic 2G. So basically, AT&T is mad that dumb some people don’t understand that,  if it confuses them, it makes AT&T’s network look terrible (and it is).

AT&T’s accusation:

Consumers are interpreting the white or blank space on the maps to mean that AT&T customers who are not in an AT&T “3G” coverage area have no wireless coverage whatsoever, and therefore have no ability to use their wireless devices for any purposes in vast areas of the country. This interpretation is not surprising as Verizon, in its own coverage maps, uses white space to inform customers that no coverage of any kind exists.

Not to ruin AT&T’s parade on using my money to launch a lawsuit, but Verizon is right here. AT&T’s 3G network is terrible in San Fransisco and even worse in New York. AT&T, here’s a deal: use the money you snatch out of my pocket to improve your service, then we can file lawsuits on everybody.

Deal?

6-year-old floating 7000 feet in the air over Denver.

t1wide.boy.balloon.02.kusa

I don’t have to explain what I just said in the title or the image. What you see is what you get. They’re looking for him with helicopters and cameras in Denver, Colorado. His aircraft is made out of tin foil, and helium balloons. You can watch him at 7000k feet live here.

Hopefully he be on the ground again.
