MSI X-Slim X600 First Impressions

The first laptop to arrive here at LaptopMemo is a slim one, or in other words, and Macbook Air look-alike. The MSI X600 is one slim, mean, powerful machine, with 1366 x 768 pixels gracing its very well-lit 15.6-inch screen. This review unit sent in by MSi is in all-clad black, with silver accents for the logos. Besides the well-lit glossy screen it packs in a 1.4 Ghz Intel ULV processor, Windows 7 Home Premium, 4 GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, and an ATi Radeon HD 4330 graphics card, which so far can move its way through some (casual and sometimes demanding) games. It’s going to go through the rough and brutal multitasking tests I’ve come up for it, as well as battery tests, wireless tests, speed tests, etc. tests — you get the picture. But so far what I can say about it is:

  • It’s slim, hence the name.
  • When under heavy tasks the fan screams for air, and yet it still gets a little warm, mainly the handrests and touchpad.
  • The keyboard is very responsive, but the added numpad becomes a nuisance, in fact, while typing this post,  I’m hit numbers instead of words, which you might expect, can be distracting at work.
  • Lightweight isn’t the correct word when speaking of the weight in this thing, paper-like is more appropriate.
  • The trackpad supports glorious multitouch (and it works), but while that is a cool feature, the physical buttons take some reaching to get to, as they have a big dead zone, and only respond at the very end of each button.

So for the meantime enjoy the gallery (new gallery in testing I might add) after the jump, and expect a full review soon, as well as the new “Did you Know” and “Opinion” sections which will come around at the same time.

Nintendo finally drops Wii price down to $199. It’s official!

090804-nintendo-02

Well, after years of buying an over priced console, the Wii if officially going to be $199 instead of $249. Nintendo has confirmed it, and it is effective Sunday, so don’t buy your Wii till then! (But I wouldn’t buy a Wii anyway, a PS3 Slim is better.)

Anyway, now the Wii can go in combat with its enemies, namely the Xbox 360 and  PS3, both which are sold at reasonable prices.

So what do you think? Will the Wii win again the holiday season, or will the might PS3 with all the awesome games that are coming up will swallow the non-HD Wii?

Oh yeah, check out my new Twitter Connect button near the comment box, it’s cool!

Wow. Before, nobody wanted to buy a PS3, now they’re buying them like they are only going to be here for a month. USA PS3 Slim sales are up 300%, in Britain it’s an amazing 999%. In the meantime, the games people want the most (according to polls) are God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII and Call of Duty:  Modern Warfare 2.

So what do you think this means? Will the PS3 Slim conquer?

PS3 Slim was filed through FCC under pseudonym

500x_slim5_01

Sony is very sneaky. According to Engadget, Sony registered the PS3 Slim under pseudonym. The PS3 Slim was registered at the FCC as a “Computer Enterainment System” under the company name “Sand Dollar Enterprise, Inc.” so that threw every person that wanted to know something off their guard. Who would think a company called “Sand Dollar Enterprise” is the one behind the PS3 Slim?We have you now Sony!

What’s more interesting than any of this is that Sony registered model CECH-2001B, in that listing it’s noted that there is a 250 GB hard drive. So Sony is should probably be releasing a 250 GB PS3 Slim for more than $300, which is the price of the new PS3 Slim.
