Samsung Captivate Launching On AT&T July 18th for $199

The 4.0-inch Super AMOLED-wielding Samsung Captivate — in other words a Galaxy S series phone — with a 1Ghz Hummingbird processor, 5 megapixel camera, and Android 2.1 with Touchwiz 3.0 (FroYo coming later) is by far and wide, the first high-end Android phone on AT&T. While we knew how the  Captivate was a pretty nice looking piece of kit, we had no idea when it was coming out.

But we have the answer now.

It’ll come out on July 18th for $199.99 on a 2-year agreement of absolute AT&T hell (you’re welcome for that).

Samsung unleashes the Epic 4G in a wave of epicness

The Samsung Epic 4G is everything but uninteresting (of course, it’s part of the Galaxy S line). A 4-inch Super AMOLED display graces its wonderful face, 5 megapixel primary camera with LED flash and 720p video recording, along with a VGA front-facing cam for video calls, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, six-axis accelerometer, and a 1GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8 processor, at the core of its silicon heart. It runs Android 2.1 (FroYo comes shorty after release) with TouchWiz 3.0 UI for starters, All of Samsung’s SocialHub and AllShare features, 3.5mm headset jack, 16GB microSD card, and 3G/4G (WiMAX) radios.

Want a slidey Android? DO YOU WANT ONE? WELL COME AND GET IT! This one’s perfect. And we’ll make sure of it, once we get our sticky hands on a review unit.

Soon, You Won’t Be Finding An AMOLED In Your Next HTC Phone

Good news everyone, and we have bad news everyone! No really. Due to the outstanding demand of all of the phones that HTC offers (namely the Droid Incredible, Nexus One) the stock of AMOLED screens is down to a point where the devices can’t be manufactured. Samsung produces those AMOLEDs, and they’re saving everything for the Galaxy S (which will be coming to the States as the Vibrant on T-Mobile and Captivate on AT&T). The Galaxy S requires Super AMOLEDs, so in this case Samsung will need all of its resources to produce the screens.

Thus, HTC will be switching many of its handsets to LCD variants. Whether or not they will be labeled as such remains to be seen, but it would be better for everyone if you knew that your next Android phone doesn’t have the AMOLED others have. The exact screens HTC will be installing will be Sony’s S-LCD (Super TFT LCD) which they claim uses less power, and higher resolutions, but with a lower contrast ratio.

On the flipside Samsung is shelling out 2 billion USD for a  plant which should open in July 2011. The new plant will produce AMOLEDs at 10-fold, so Samsung can almost make 30 million displays each month. Cool stuff are going around here, didn’t you know?

Samsung Creating A Blackberry Opposition, AKA The “Galaxy Q”?

It’s time for the rumor news! According to a rumor/jubba hubba by a dude I know of called Bettiol, Samsung is preparing a handset that would grab the eyes of Blackberry users in the U.S.of A. Also, Samsung is thought to be negotiating with AT&T and Verizon to get the handset out by the end of this year. The device could have a QWERTY keyboard, and a display (possibly touchscreen, possibly not, but possibly touchscreen for sure!). Besides the name “Galaxy Q” though, there’s nothing else we can chime in about. So, I’ll leave it at that.

**I wonder what the name could be? Maybe SamBerry? Or how about BlackSung?

Samsung Omnia II Review

Let’s start this off in a straightforward style. The Samsung Omnia II is a 3.7-inch 480x800 AMOLED resistive touchscreen smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.5, a 5 megapixel camera with 720x480px video capture, 8GB of internal storage with a microSD expansion slot, GPS/Wi-Fi/Verizon 3G, and FM radio. Right off the bat though — exactly when you turn it on — things start to go wrong.

Samsung Galaxy S dances through the FCC’s ring of tests

Looks like the Samsung Galaxy S didn’t have such a bad time at the FCC, and passed their unnumbered amount of tests. Above is a nice little outline complete with the FCC’s label. Since the FCC is American, that means only one thing: it’s gotta be coming Stateside. Sporting AT&T-friendly bands, 850MHz and 1900MHz, that would mean that in the coming months you could expect it to baffle the Motorola BACKFLIP, AT&T’s first (questionable) Android handset. Now if only AT&T made this real…

Samsung Galaxy S “Pro” to get full QWERTY slide-out keyboard?

Above: A mockup of the real thing.

The word “pro” nowadays in smartphones usually can mean nothing but one thing: a full slide-out QWERTY. In this case, rumor has it that Samsung is getting its brains together to create another super Android, in this case a samsung Galaxy S, with a simple addition of a full QWERTY. It’s not too bad, and makes sense for users who won’t like to grease that wonderful 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED. We here at LaptopMemo aren’t too keen at the idea, but hey, what do you think? Would you go “Pro” instead of Galaxy S “Regular”?

CTIA 2010: Samsung Galaxy S; 4-inch touchscreen, 1GHz CPU, Android

Look at you Samsung! While you may have not made the cut with Android in the Behold II, you surely have something good going on here with the Galaxy S! The Samsung Galaxy S has a similar appearance to the Wave debuted at MWC, but instead packs in a 4-inch touchscreen, 1GHz CPU made by Samsung, Android 2.1, FM Radio, 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, GPS with 3D Maps, Samsung Social Hub (sort of like FriendStream or MOTOBLUR), and is 9.9 millimeters thin (lighter and thinner than the iPhone).  PR after the break.
