Leaked HTC Desire official U.S.A launch round-up

So today’s Saturday; the gadget world has come to a halt, the ninjas and tipsters asleep, and PR people (hello, Sarah!) are checking in and out of Foursquare. In one word, today is a boring news day. Slow Saturday if you will. But not for the HTC Desire, HTC’s fully-branded version of the Nexus One. The Desire packs in the same Snapdragon CPU, 512Mb of RAM, 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with multitouch, Android 2.1, and the new and improved Sense UI. What’s not to love?

Here’s what: There’s doubt it’s coming to the U.S.A. Well, let’s bash that idea, shall we? Boy Genius got himself some pretty good intel regarding a US launch of the Desire (and the Legend, as the Hero2). Afterwards, there was speculation that AT&T’s version would come in a different color variation, then the Silver Desire appeared. But that’s only BG’s intel. Here’s mine:

A pretty good ninja seems to have the goods on a United States Of America HTC Desire launch. And it’s on T-Mobile. There’s also word that several store managers are now training on how to use the HTC Desire and promote it, as well as keep secrecy.  Of course, you could just say, “Hey, maybe it’s just the HTC HD2!”. Wrong. An employee that spoke to a particular manager reported that the device “was large”, ran Android, and was the Desire. The manager also said it was “awesome”.

If it sounds like it, runs Android, and is in this post, it’s that the HTC Desire might be headed to T-Mobile in its original brown coating, while AT&T would get the silver. So the Desire would be featured on two carriers, while it’s Google-branded sibling, the Nexus One, would be on all four major US carriers. Now that was interesting, wasn’t it? Now let’s wait and see if this salt-drizzled rumor turns out to be a Desire in my pocket on either AT&T or T-Mobile networks.

HTC Incredible to make Verizon debut in two weeks?

If you dare to call your phone “incredible”, you might want to watch out for the person that actually has a phone with the name “HTC Incredible”. Sporting a Snapdragon CPU downclocked to 768MHz (normally 1GHz), 512 MB RAM, 8 megapixel camera, a 1,300 mAh battery, and almost a perfect match to the Nexus One’s measurements.

According to the latest rumor, the Incredible will land on Verizon in no less than two weeks time, meaning before that Verizon Nexus One “spring launch”. So, a phone with an “incredible” name, Android 2.1 with the new Sense UI, and Verizon? That’ll be one Incredible please, make it snappy.

Nexus One Headed to Verizon On March 23? A Googler Said So.

The main drawback on the Nexus One (now with multitouch, there really aren’t that many) is the network. T-Mobile is not the fastest 3G dude out there, but Verizon’s EV-DO Rev.A network is. Neowin has some buzz from an anonymous Google employee who said that the CDMA version of the Nexus One (for Big Red) is coming on March 23rd. That’s one day before the CTIA wireless convention, which is no less than a month away.  Seems pretty plausible and accurate if you ask me.

New Rumor: AT&T getting HTC Desire, Sprint gets the Legend as the Hero2

While HTC seemed very keen on saying that the oh-so-wonderful HTC Legend and HTC Desire wouldn’t be making their way to the other side of the pond, a tipster from Boy Genius Report proves otherwise. Google is interested in providing the Nexus One on T-Mobile (as they do now), Verizon Wireless (knew that), and also AT&T (that we did not know). All 3 versions would be sold on the Nexus One web store, but the HTC Desire will be the actual AT&T unit that we’ve heard of. Meaning that the Sense UI, Android 2.1, and all are going to make their way in May or June. Also, the Desire will get a slight touch-up in terms of color or finish. As for the Legend, it will head to Sprint as the Hero2. But just as the original Hero made its way to Sprint, it got some modifications (fugly ones), the Legend would also get a facelift of some sort. Otherwise there’s not timeframe for the Hero2 at all. And as your daily piece of caution: always take rumors with a grain of salt. This could all just blow up in our faces. Just saying.

Motorola Shadow is the Nexus Two with a QWERTY keyboard?

Right now there’s no word on whether the image above is fan-made super-Photoshopping, or if it’s the real Motorola Shadow, aka Nexus Two, a keyboard-equipped counterpart of the Google Nexus One. It very closely resembles a Droid/Milestone, but with a QWERTY sliding keyboard and a wrist strap. If this really is the real one, it would serve as Google’s second official Android device. An image of the Nexus Two with the wrist strap is after the jump. This Android handset business is getting puzzling.

AllThingsD: Apple Making “Major Announcement” on Jan 27th

Are you low on Apple Tablet news? Then look no more! Except according to this report, you’ll have to wait one more day for the Apple Tablet.  AllThingsD is reporting that Apple is getting ready to make a “Major  Announcement” on the 27th of this month, and not the 26th like previous reports suggested. What’s making this even more interesting is that they say it will be at the Yerba Buena Center, and will be a “major new product”. Wait, there’s more. A French site called Mac4Ever reports that developers are working with the beta iPhone OS 4.0 SDk, and the devs are reformatting their apps for a larger screened device. I think I like where this is going.
