Apple Safari 4 Review

The web browser is something that is very important on a computer. We use a web browser everyday! It should be the right one, right?

Maybe Safari 4 is the perfect one?

Apple Safari 4 Download Page

Apple Safari 4 was announced at the WWDC 09, the same place where the new Macbook Pro Family and iPhone 3GS were announced. For a hands-on review of the Macbook Pro 13-inch, click here.

In my fourth and final part of the “Browser Reviews”,  I reviewed each of the 4 major web browsers (Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox 3, Apple Safari 4 BETA, and Google Chrome. I came to the decision that Mozilla Firefox 3 was the “Best Browser” due to the speed, security, and ease of use as well as the add-ons available.  But now, I think I could possibly change that, with the new Firefox 3.5.  But Apple Safari 4 deserves a pat on the back if not more.

Last year, the Macbook Unibody was announced, this year it has been removed to the Macbook Pro Line. It uses the same unibody enclosure, but when I held it, it felt much more solid than the previous version. An SD card slot has been added and Firewire 800 is back ( who uses Firewire??)  The screen quality is much better, but the pictures don’t show it, dumb iPhone 3G camera! Thankfully the new iPhone will have a 3.0 megapixel camera.

Back to the laptop, it’s very fast, with a boot time of less than a minute. Keyboard feels softer than previous generation. Overall everything else except the processor, screen, and price remains the same.

Microsoft Bing Review

Review:

Microsoft Bing is something new to the Internet,  it has only been active for 3 days, but it could show signs of success for Microsoft in the search engine world.  It replaces Live! Search and will rival Yahoo! Search and of course Google.

Name

I have many mixed feelings about the name “Bing”.  Originally, it was supposed to be called “Kumo”, and at the first exhibition of Kumo in California, that was the name, but Microsoft made a last minute change to “Bing” at the E3.

Put it plain and simple: “Bing” is not as good as “Kumo”.

Browser Reviews Part 4: Google Chrome

Here we are at the final review of my browser reviews. I made these reviews to give people a better sense of the 4 big browsers, even if you already know a lot about them.  In the bottom of this review,  I will post what I think is the best browser in terms of  speed, security, and ease of use.

Google Chrome:

A new browser on the market always gets the look that it’s going to fail.  This one is different as Google has created it’s first web browser. Since, they rule the Internet, they should be able to rule what you use to look at the Internet. Why not? We’ll see.

Browser Reviews Part 3: Internet Explorer 8

Internet Explorer 8 Review:

The typical browser that everyone uses,  the Internet Explorer family of  browsers is one that everyone has used. Everyone,  possibly.

There isn’t a lot to explain here about IE 8.  Only in Google Chrome, which will be the next review…..

IE 6 was a very stable release, but it’s successor IE 7 is in my point of view a terrible browser. IE 8 has a promising look though,  just as Windows 7 does.  Let’s take a quick spin and find out.

Browser Reviews Part 2: Apple Safari 4 (beta)

Here is my Apple Safari 4 (beta) review:

Apple Safari 4 is what I think is a threat to Firefox 3, since Safari is very fast, looks better than Firefox, and has Cover Flow, a feature where you can look at a bookmark and see the web page at the same time. A feature I like is that when you first open Safari it plays a movie just like when you buy and turn on a new Mac for the first time.
