Grr: Android 4.0.4 Only Out For GSM Nexus S And Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ , Not LTE Variant

This is getting on our (read: my) nerves. Both the Sprint Nexus S and the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus seem to be the second-class citizens that the other Android devices are, as they never receive updates, such as the new Android 4.0.4 which adds smoother screen rotations, camera fixes, stability improvements, and numerous other bug fixes and tweaks to Ice Cream Sandwich that have long been asked for. For those of you that do have an HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus or a GSM Nexus S (meaning with SIM card), then the update is freely available to you, unless the download has not come down to your handset, since updates like these are gradually rolled out to the masses.

Sprint Nexus S 4G Releasing On May 8th For $200

Remember the Nexus S? It’s Google’s flagship Android phone and always runs the latest version of Android before any other phone on the market, starting with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sprint was scheduled to receive the device in its full glory, but with the addition of 4G WiMAX service and Google Voice carrier integration. Now onto the good news: it’s release is May 8th, for $200 on a 2-year agreement. Press release after the break.

Apple Sues Samsung For Copying “Look And Feel” Of Its Devices

Whoa. Today is a new day for — lawsuits? The Wall Street Journal has just reported that Apple has filed a lawsuit against Samsung in the Northern District of California on April 15 (that’s last Friday) for copying the “look and feel” of the iPhone and iPad with the Galaxy S 4G, Epic 4G, Galaxy Tab (probably the 7-inch model), and Nexus S (which is Google’s flagship Android phone). A reason (one of many) to pay close attention to this case is that the Nexus S uses Android 2.3, the latest version of Android, while the other devices do not, indicating a true attack on Android as a whole (or so it would seem, right?).

Now for the irony: Samsung builds and sells chips for Apple products. A excerpt from the lawsuit is seen below:

“Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products.”

Nexus S Now Available At BestBuy

Google’s Nexus S has been available at BestBuy stores since 9:00AM, and available for $199 on a 2-year contract with T-Mobile USA, or a full $529 for an unlocked, contract-free handset. With everything from Android 2.3, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, front-facing VGA and 5MP primary camera with 720p HD recording, the Nexus S hardly comes to a party unprepared, except for the lack of fake “4G” or in T-Mobile’s case, HSPA+. So, go ahead and buy a Nexus S now, if you please.

Hello, Nexus S On T-Mobile With Android 2.3 Gingerbread

The Nexus S — is here. It contains Android 2.3 Gingerbread stock without any extra UI coatings, and will launch on T-Mobile this December 16th. The specs are a 4-inch WVGA “Contour” Display at a crisp 235 ppi with Super AMOLED, triband HSPA with AWS support (no HSPA+), 5 megapixel camera with 480p or 720p video recording (a page on the Nexus S site say it only records in 480p, another says HD) and VGA front-facing camera, NFC chip, 16GB of onboard storage, 512MB of RAM, 1GHz Cortex A8-based Hummingbird processor, Bluetooth 2.1, and a gyroscope like all Galaxy S phones due to Samsung manufacturing the Nexus S.

Gingerbread on the other hand brings a built-in task manager, front-facing camera video chat support, improved copy-and-paste, deeply rooted VoIP support, NFC integration, gyroscope support for more accurate orientations, new download manager, and redesigned keyboard with full multitouch support (!).

With the Nexus S officially announced, it’s time to be eager to get my hands on one, and better yet, for it to be released. Promo vids for both the Nexus S and Gingerbread after the break. Also, Nexus One users are receiving their Gingerbread updates, and the Nexus S will also be available unlocked on the 20th, and on contract on the 16th at only BestBuy (a marketing choice learned from the faults that was the original Nexus One web-only sales model).

Update: Now we have pricing: $529 unlocked with a contract for use on almost any carrier (sans AT&T’s 3G) and $199 on a 2-year contract.

Nexus S makes a trip to the big man’s desk at the FCC with new antennas in tow

The Nexus S? Does it exist? According to the FCC, it does (and to leaked spy shots) and now it has new Bluetooth / WiFi and GPS antennas. Contrary to the belief that the Sexy Nexy S was delayed due to a dual-core processor seems wrong due to this new filing for the Samsung GT-i9020T (a.k.a Nexus S). Now all we need is a release date for — soon. Via: FCC, Eng
