myTouch Slide: June 2nd on 2-year contract, for $180

With Android 2.2 Froyo launching, any love left for Android 2.1 “Eclair” has been lost. Meaning that it’s now up to Google to push FroYo out to all of its new devices. Going back onto the topic of the myTouch Slide headed for T-Mobile; we actually know now when it’s actually getting there, which is on June 2nd for the not expected pricing of $180, which in some cases, is expensive for a smartphone of its, ahem, “class” (which isn’t top-notch, by far).

And with the EVO 4G coming to Sprint two days later for $199 and offering a ton more, it begs the question: is the myTouch Slide actually worth it, or is T-Mobile thinking harder than we all are?

New Rumor: myTouch Slide to cost $150 on June 16th release?

Going back to the myTouch Slide, an Android 2.1-based smartphone with the T-Mobile influenced ”Espresso” Sense UI, and a QWERTY slide-out with entry-level specs, new documents by TmoNews suggested that the Slide will in fact cost $149.99 on a 2-year agreement with T-Mobile. Customers who wish to pay full retail price to use with their own GSM SIM cards on the device are purportedly going to be paying $399 for the Slide, which again, is the costly full retail price.

Whatever price it might be, the MyTouch Slide is going to be the only Android phone with a proper looking physical keyboard, unless something else comes along.

T-Mobile’s myTouch 3G Slide is made official — Android 2.1, coming in June

Well, well, well, Motorola CLIQ. Looks like you’ll be at the bottom of the Android QWERTY-slide out category in 3….2….1… The myTouch Slide will actually be called the myTouch 3G Slide — weird name, we know — and will pack in the heavily T-Mobile flavored “Espresso” Sense UI on Android 2.1, a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 3.4-inch HVGA display, and 5 megapixel camera. Not bad, T-Mo. It’ll be available “in June” in either black, white, or red for an unknown-as-of-yet price. To say we’re not excited is baloney; I’m very excited. Now to get my hands-on with a review unit, that’s another thing entirely. One more shot of the Slide and press release, After The Jump.

T-Mobile’s myTouch Slide coming in 3 different colors? Interesting…

Since the T-Mobile myTouch Slide is the successor to the G1, it means that not only there is extreme leakage on its specs and software (Android 2.1 with that leaked “Espresso” Sense UI, which is really glossy) but now, colors. When you cough up the cash to grab a myTouch Slide for an as-of-yet unknown price, you’ll have the option of Red with Black, Black, and White. Now the guys at CellPhoneSignal claim that the shot above is directly from T-Mobile’s press gallery (and we have no reason to think otherwise). So technically, that’s today’s dose of myTouch Slide news. You’re welcome.

A proper myTouch Slide photo makes the rounds…with details

The above is a shot of the successor to the T-Mobile G1, aka the myTouch Slide. This little sport has a 4-row QWERTY slide-out, 1300mAHr battery, optical trackpad, camera with LED flash, a not-so-cool ARM11 processor, 3.5mm headset jack, microSD expansion slot, and a 320×480 screen resolution, which is almost considered blurry compared to newer Android phones which contain 800×480 AMOLED screens. Besides that sorry list of specs, there’s not much to desire here besides slightly updated touch-sensitive buttons, including a hippy-like Google search logo. Ah, good times.

T-Mobile myTouch Slide leaked and pictured?

With the G1 approaching its destined fate (termination), the CLIQ is the only T-Mobile Android handset with a full QWERTY. But not for long, because it looks like the myTouch Slide (aka HTC Espresso) is coming in to take that second spot, and probably also coming to knock out the T-Mobile Sidekick line in one single blow. Besides the obvious QWERTY style slide out keyboard and the optical trackpad, you have an HVGA display, externally accessible microSD slot, camera with flash, and an old ARM11 processor. So in fact, the myTouch Slide looks like a suitable successor to the G1: it has no sense of style, is low-end, and probably will be cheaper than other smartphones as well. Android 2.0 is the rumored version of Android running for this model. One more picture after the jump.

HTC Espresso, aka myTouch2 or myTouch Slide headed to T-Mobile in May?

TmoNews is reporting that three new handsets will go to T-Mobile USA in the first quarter of this year. One of them is the confirmed HTC HD2. The other two are the myTouch2 or myTouch Slide (codenamed Espresso), and an unknown Garmin phone demoed at CES. The last 2 phones have an expected launch in May; you might remember the codename Espresso that was found in a leaked Android 2.1 ROM, the new Sense UI for the Esspresso, along with the rumored specs of a QWERTY keyboard, a 320×480 display, and the same 528Mhz processor in the Hero/Magic. As usual, only time will tell what this handset even looks like.
