Motorola Sets New Press Event In New York City For Upcoming Devices

Motorola has set another press event date in New York City — October 18th. The event is most probably going to be focused on the DROID RAZR, a new Motorola smartphone, the Motorola XOOM Media Edition/2, and finally the DROID HD, which may or may not the DROID RAZR and — you get the idea. Motorola DROID 2 Global Final Details Surface, Some Details Missing

A handy chart whipped up in Photoshop by Motorola and leaked by Droid-Life compares the DROID 2 Global to the iPhone 4 and the two other big Androids on Verizon: the Samsung Fascinate and DROID Incredible. First off, the Droid 2 Global contains that meaty 1.2 GHz processor, comes in “Dark Sapphire” or “Winter White” and still has the same 3.7-inch, 854 x 480-pixel touchscreen display. Other features include Android 2.2, Dual Band CDMA, Quad Band GSM and Tri Band UMTS for usage almost anywhere in the world with the right SIM card.

And here’s some more specs:

• Remote wipe of device and SD card
• Document editing with QuickOffice
• Inbox filtering
• Invite attendees to meetings using GAL
• Free/busy lookups for meeting participants
• 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
• Dual-band CDMA and quad-band GSM
• Physical keyboard and virtual Swype keyboard
• 8GB internal memory plus 8GB pre-installed SD card
• Android 2.2
• 3 UI profiles
• 3G mobile hotspot capability
• Flash 10.1

And still we’ll need a release date and price; those details are missing Verizon and we all want them soon.

Motorola DROID 2 Finds Hands-On At Android Community Site

DROID-Life is the name. It’s run by Kellex (me and him have had our share of conversations regarding, of course, Android in particular). Apparently, he’s a lucky sap, and he’s posted a YouTube video of the DROID 2 in action. In other words, his grimy paws got to touch the DROID 2. How I envy this fellow. Video after the break.

Motorola’s DROID X takes a (serious) jab at the iPhone 4′s antenna wreck

Interestingly, Motorola thinks that the iPhone 4′s antenna issue is a great practice session for their marketing department (so do we). So in a full page ad in the New York Times today, Moto does exactly that:

[...] And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls. You have a voice. And you deserve to be heard.

True, true. There’s no excuse for ‘ol Steve telling us how to hold his precious iPhone 4; I should be able to hold the iPhone 4 with my feet and still get a reception. BTW, the ad’s full-size image is after the jump!

Motorola Droid and DROID X getting FroYo’d in “late summer”

So how does late summer sound to you? If it’s hoping that this terrible heat will end in different parts of the world, your techy counterpart might also have something else to say. See genius, according to a leaked Verizon memo the DROID original will find its FroYo in the freezer first at the end of July, than the DROID X in late August. Whatever might come out of this, fingers crossed double, the Droids by Moto will get FroYo (hopefully no puns were intended in this post).

Motorola DROID X: 4.3″ Screen, Android 2.1, 720p HD Video, HDMI-out. It’s The New Top

The Motorola DROID X has gotten its full presser in NYC by the CEOs of Adobe, Google, Verizon, and Motorola. First off, the DROID X allows you to stream Blockbuster video, and uses V CAST video, NFL Mobile, Skype Mobile, and a Back-Up Assistant, all on Verizon. But what does the DROID X offer against the competition?

  • Mainly a 4.3 inch screen with 854 x 480 pixels
  • Android 2.1 Eclair (the 2.2 update comes late summer), with a toned down version of MOTOBLUR
  • HD 720p video recording on a 8 megapixel camera
  • a 1GHz TI OMAP 4630 processor
  • 8GB of internal memoryand 16GB memory card (expandable up to 32GB)
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot service much like the EVO, but only supporting up to 5 devices and a 2GB data cap
  • Will have Flash 10.1 support (with the coming 2.2 update)
  • A multitouch keyboard that comes pre-installed with Swype
  • 3 antennas for noise cancelling
  • A 1500 mAh battery (that has the same outstanding batter of the original DROID 1)

Does this sound tantalizing to you? It does to the press and everyone else at the event. PR after the more link.

And the DROID X is priced at $199 on a 2-year contract for Verizon Wireless and launches on July 15th, with a 1930 mAh battery that will launch in the coming months and will add 1mm of thickness to the Droid X. Nice stuff.

Motorola Droid X website is live, confirms specs

The Motorola Droid X website is alive and kicking! Mainly, what you see on it is the above image, and some confirmed specs: a 4.3-inch screen, HDMI-out, and according to Verizon “720p screen”. Now all that’s needed is a press release, don’t ya think?

UPDATED: Thinking about it now, the words “720p” screen must definitely be a typo. When we first leaked out an image of the Droid X (a long time ago), one of the confirmed specs was 720p video recording.  Otherwise, that June 23rd event by Verizon, Motorola, and Adobe is going to be presenting the Droid X, and hopefully the new successor to the grandfather Droid — the QWERTY-sliding Droid 2.

Reporting! Verizon Droid Shadow and DROID 2 Appear In Verizon’s Systems

Hear that siren! No you don’t? OK then, well whatever, because DroidLife doesn’t hear it either. The dudes who live lives as Droids have uncovered the Motorola Droid 2 and Droid Shadow residing peacefully in Verizon’s internal systems (they’re internal, don’t ask us where they are, ’cause we know). Other than the fact that they are there and they are in VZW’s systems, that’s all good for Android, right? Hopefully so.
