The New iPod Nano Only Costs $45.10 To Make, But It’s Priced At $149

I’ve heard of profit margin, but Apple has taken it to a new level. The production costs for the new iPod Nano, which is now sans a camera and clickwheel, are $43.73 in materials and $1.37 in total manufacturing costs. The most expensive components on the watch0like MP3 player are the 8GB of NAND Flash memory ($14.40), the display ($11.50), and the Samsung processor ($4.95). Also keep in mind each iPod Nano comes with its own headset and USB cable. But still those items are probably super-cheap as well, so we can only draw this to one conclusion: Apple is charging you for the iPod Nano because they can and want to.

And what about the $49 iPod Shuffle? It must cost like what, 20 dollars to make?

New iPods Debut With New iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, And iPod Touch With Camera

The New iPods Overview

The new iPod Shuffle now has the buttons of the 2nd generation model, VoiceOver of the 3rd generation, with playlists and the usual Genius features, 5 different colors, and 15 hours of battery life. The new iPod Nano incorporates a multitouch touchscreen, no clickwheel but has a clip, FM radio, and iOS 4.x feel, works in 29 languages, has Nike+ support, and 24 hours of battery life. It’ll come in seven different colors; including a Product(RED) version.

Finally the new iPod Touch — with a camera. It now has an LED-powered Retina display, an Apple A4 chip, a gyroscope, GameCenter with iOS 4.1, FaceTime with a front-facing camera (that works with iPhone 4s and iTouches), and rear-facing HD video recording. The iMovie video editing app seen on iPhone 4 will also be available.

Pricing

The iPod Shuffle starts @ $49 for the 2GB model, the new iPod Nano costing $149 for 8GB, $179 for 16GB. The iPod Touch with 8GB of storage for $229,$299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB. All the new models are available for pre-order today, and will be released next week.

Leaked Apple touchscreen found to be tiny, mysterious

So what’s this, eh? A touchscreen that measures 3cm (1.18 inches)!? Perhaps it is for the iWatch, or a new iPod Nano? Or maybe for a new iPod Shuffle? Whatever it might be, the source of the photo is Taiwanese site Apple.pro, which leaked out the white iPhone 4 and the new Unibody Macbook Pro, so at least we might be looking at something real here.

iFixit takes apart iPod Touch 3G and finds FM transmitter and 802.11n chip

The new iPod Touch 3G is missing the camera everyone thought it would have, but iFixit found some interesting things about that while taking it apart. According to iFixit, there is exactly a space of 6mm x 6mm x 3mm that could be used for the camera now found in the new iPod Nano.

There is also an FM transmitter and a Broadcom BCM4329 chip which has support for the super fast 802.11n, making the wireless faster than the one found in the iPhone 3GS!

All of these findings could possibly be put to use in a software update, but maybe Apple will change its mind as some sources say, and actually an iPod Touch with a camera. They better..

This photos are from Cult of Mac showing only 2 cases from China. They show cases for the iPod Touch and iPod Nano, and these cases have holes for cameras. Does this mean that Apple will make the new rumored iPod Touch and Nano with a camera? This sounds very interesting doesn’t it?
