Verizon breaks its own first-day sales record with iPhone 4 in 2 hours

So get this straight: you’re Verizon, you have the iPhone 4. Pre-orders start at 3AM. In all but 2 hours, all pre-orders are gone and you’ve made company history for most sales on the first-day for any device — ever. That sort of a accomplishment usually renders a press release, which I have queued up for you below.

And while there aren’t actually any numbers to support the claim by Verizon, keep in mind Apple manufacturers plenty of iPhones for launch, and that Verizon had to be ready for this, in some way. Oh, and the next batch of CDMA iPhone 4s come out on the 9th.

How Intriguing: Verizon To Throttle Speed Of Heavy iPhone Data Munchers

This is one of the warnings to keep in mind when purchasing an iPhone on Verizon. One, you’ll get a better network, but with slower data speeds. Two, if you use a lot of data, those slower data speeds will get slower. Yeah.

As Verizon puts it, this only applies to users that use an “extraordinary amount of data”, and are in the top 5% of Verizon data munchers. Once that once that throttling is in motion, it will remain in effect till the end of the monthly billing cycle. For a full understanding of what is going on here, including how file formats would be affected, hit up the source link, peeps. Via: Verizon (PDF)

Verizon Sets 3AM On February 3 As iPhone 4 Pre-Order Time

Mark that. 3AM Eastern Standard Time, February 3. That’s the time the iPhone 4 pre-order system goes online, and probably when Verizon’s site goes down (hopefully not?). Pricing is as follows: 16GB and 32GB black iPhone 4s at $199 and $299 respectively, for $70 you get 450 minutes and unlimited data, wireless mobile hotspot is another $20, and finally SMS is 250 for $5 and unlimited for $20. Hopefully you won’t go into debt on this iDevice purchase. Via: Verizon iPhone 4 Waiting Page

A Reason Why It Would Suck To Get An iPhone On Verizon.

You have an iPhone (or you’re getting one). You love it. You hate AT&T, but you still love your iPhone (which is actually pretty hard to do). Since 2007, you’ve been buying, setting up, and using the iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, and the 4. While the iPhone 4 may be superior (and it is, with only a few Android phones as good as it is), it always is a problem of AT&T. No longer, because it’s on Verizon Wireless, without a hint of crapware seen on Android or branding to be found. It turns out, buying now would be a bad idea.

Doesn’t make much sense of what I just typed right there?

It does.

And you’d be a fool to do otherwise. Now with Verizon on board, and AT&T losing exclusivity in the United States, that means the iPhone 5 will be on both networks. Considering the date is February 10th, and a new iPhone is ALWAYS launched every June/July, then you’d be just as royally screwed as your weekly AT&T customer service call. It’s your choice: be the early adopter and pay for it, or wait it out just a bit longer. You’d enjoy it a lot more, that’s for sure.

iOS 4.3 beta now available to developers, with several (good) features

image

Starting right now, if you have a developer membership for iOS, you can download the new iOS 4.3 beta 1 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Major things to note of include personal hotspot capability (but only if your carrier activates it), the ability to switch between the mute button or screen orientation lock for the iPad, AirPlay for third-party apps to an Apple TV, a few new multitouch gestures for iPad, and lastly, not being able to roll back from the beta; you’d have to wait for the final version to get anywhere else. Otherwise, get downloading, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
