iPhone 4S: Dual-Core A5 CPU, 8MP Camera, Siri Voice Control, iOS 5 And More

It’s the new iPhone 4S. It contains a state-of-the-art dual-core Apple A5 processor with up to 7x increased graphics performance from the previous iPhone and 2x the processing speed. It also has HSPA+ speeds of up to 14.4MBps and increased battery life — 8 hours of talk time on 3G. The iPhone 4S also packs a new camera at 8 megapixels (with am amazing aperture of f2.4 and takes photos in 1.1 seconds, with each shot coming faster than the last) and a resolution of 3264×2448, including full HD 1080p video recording, all with better contrast, face detection, temporary noise reduction with video stabilization, and low-light photo-taking. The new iPhone 4S is also a world phone that comes in GSM with CDMA (no separate models, just one model) using a new antenna design the increases speeds and call quality, hopefully. As for appearances, everything remains the same, including a delightful Retina display and a glass exterior.

One major feature as part of the new iPhone 4S is called Siri. Holding down the home button allows you to activate Siri, where you can ask it questions, like what the weather is like. After the command is stated it will immediately launch to the app or action that you requested, or in the weather example, will actually speak to you, telling you that it looks rainy. Another amazing use of Siri is — just about anything. You can speak natural language to the iPhone 4S, like “wake me up at 6AM tomorrow” and it will set the clock as well as telling you it did so. Another amazing example of Siri in action at the “Let’s Talk iPhone” event is Siri reading you messages in the notification center for you.

Now onto the prices — 16GB: $199, 32GB for $299, or 64GB for $399 (in black or white) on a 2-year agreement with pre-orders beginning the 7th and release date of the 14th of October on AT&T, Verizon, or — wait for it — Sprint. As for countires that get the iPhone 4S on October 14th, they are: the U.S., Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan.

PR after the break.

Verizon’s CFO Gives Details Of The Next iPhone, Says It Will Be A Global Device

This was totally unexpected, but in an interview with Reuters, Verizon Communications’ chief financial officer, Fran Shammo, confirmed several details on the upcoming iPhone. First of all, it would be a global device :“Verizon’s [next iPhone] version will also work in as many countries as AT&T’s iPhone, which has global coverage,” stated the CFO.The exec also made clear that 4G LTE isn’t a sure inclusion in the upcoming iPhone: “I think it’s a bigger issue for Apple than it is for us,” said Shammo speaking about the need for an LTE iPhone. “Depending on where Apple plays, that’s where we’ll sell.” So, how about someone from AT&T give us the rest of the details about the upcoming iPhone, as it seems to be on a great start so far.

White iPhone Coming Out In Spring, Says Phil Schiller On Twitter

@airickanderson Hi Eric. The white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!).
@pschiller
Philip Schiller

So, this is interesting. Whilst on my daily searches of tasty (technology) things on the web, I found Phil Schiller tweeting to someone at random, which said tweet is seen above. It’s great news (depending on how important the color of a smartphone is to you), and since the white iPad 2 is in full production, there’s no reason for Phil’s tweet not to stand true as well. Minecraft For iPad And iPhone Is In Development

Oh, goody. Guess what, nerds? Minecraft is coming to the iPad and iPhone (or iOS as a whole), and will be released later this year. It is being ported by the new Aron Neiminen at the Mojang offices headed by Markus Persson, creator of Minecraft. Markus makes clear that the mobile versions won’t receive all the updates that the PC version does, but will retain features that work with touch in a coordinated fashion.

iPhone Data Compromised In 6 Minutes By Researchers

This is either cool, trippy, or informative. Few things require three italicized words to prove a point, so you see where this is going. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute Secure Information Technology (Fraunhofer SIT) displayed what are the dangers of losing your iPhone and not remotely wiping its data (something that can be done for free via the Find My iPhone app) by hacking it in 6 minutes, tops, and getting all passwords, including things like your Gmail account, home WiFi, etc.

The proof is in the pudding, after the break.

Verizon breaks its own first-day sales record with iPhone 4 in 2 hours

So get this straight: you’re Verizon, you have the iPhone 4. Pre-orders start at 3AM. In all but 2 hours, all pre-orders are gone and you’ve made company history for most sales on the first-day for any device — ever. That sort of a accomplishment usually renders a press release, which I have queued up for you below.

And while there aren’t actually any numbers to support the claim by Verizon, keep in mind Apple manufacturers plenty of iPhones for launch, and that Verizon had to be ready for this, in some way. Oh, and the next batch of CDMA iPhone 4s come out on the 9th.
