HTC EVO 4G is Sprint’s heavy-power 4G Android 2.1 handset with Sense UI and Snapdragon

For a long while now we’ve been seeing rumors of a WiMAX-powered handset dubbed the HTC “Supersonic“. No more, it’s the EVO 4G now! Sprint’s most powerful handset is powered by a CDMA version of the Snapdragon found in the Desire and Nexus One, has a 480 x 800 4.3-inch TFT LCD, 1GB of built-in memory and 512MB of RAM, a bigger battery than the HD2, an 8 megapixel camera that can record 720p video, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for good use, HDMI-out, 802.11b/g WiFi, and a 8GB microSD card. Android 2.1 has the latest Sense UI coating on it, complete with live wallpapers and Adobe Flash.

In shorter words, the Nexus One just got owned.

What’s truly amazing is the WiMAX 4G with 3G technology. The HTC EVO uses EV-DO Rev A. as the phone-calling radios and 4G or 3G if you like for data processing. The EVO 4G can also be used as a MiFi hotspot which can support up to eight users over 4G and very possibly 3G coverage. All in all, the Nexus One is not on my top list of phones I want. I’m getting myself an HTC EVO 4G, when it releases in the US “this summer”, according to Sprint. Isn’t this the best looking phone, by far, and ever? Press release after the “read more” for you people who are wide-eyed, like myself.

LEAKED: HTC Supersonic in testing and Nexus One found in Sprint’s system

At the Android blog These Are The Droids, an anonymous source states that the upcoming HTC Supersonic was being tested by Sprint, and is indeed running Android 2.1. The source also claimed that the build was less buggy then it was in Janurary, when the Supersonic was leaked. Another note left by the tipster was that currently the Supersonic is using the Sense UI found on the HTC Hero, but upon final release will use the refreshed Sense found on the Desire and Legend. Another thing: the Nexus One is currently in Sprint’s database for a future release. While we cannot independently confirm if this is all true, it seems pretty real to us so far. Any tipsters want to come forth about now?

Sprint to launch first WiMAX handset in Q1 2010, must be Supersonic

In an interview with Forbes magazine, Sprint revealed that its first 4G handset would be available in Q1 2010. Paget Alves, Sprint’s president of Business Markets, confirmed the existence of such device and pointed out that the smartphone would target businesses and government agencies as well as regular consumers. He declined to leak more info on the handset itself, but we have a pretty shrewd idea that it’s the HTC A9292 WiMAX bar that was spotted in Sprint’s inventory earlier this year. The actual prodcut is believed to be the HTC Supersonic, an Android-rocking Snapdragon-rolling, totally awesome, cool-looking handset, which was photographed and rendered in January. Anyone planning to get their first 4G phone when this comes out?

Exclusive: HTC Lineup For MWC Is “Incredible”? Apple “beware”??

While searching for juicy tidbits on HTC’s upcoming product line (the HTC Legend, Incredible, Bravo, and Supersonic) I stumbled across an interesting tweet by @claudineb of The Daily Telegraph. Although it does make sense that there would be an embargo, if you say the words “Apple beware” then something is brewing inside HTC? Not only that but in the slide after the jump you’ll see she says, “It’s not an iPhone killer per say, but brings some lovely, well-implemented new ideas to the table that Apple should take note of.” If Apple should take notes then it’s for more than one phone, right?

Any tipsters that want to come forth please do so now. [Thanks! Claudine]

Nearly crystal clear shot of the HTC Supersonic emerges

Well, will you look at that? Earlier we had what we thought was a fake rendering, and now it’s the real thing! Just as a quick recap for people who live under a rock, the HTC Supersonic’s specs are sure to please anyone who would get one — I would in fact:

  • 4.3″ display. It’s nice and big, but the bad news: It’s not AMOLED.
  • It runs Android 2.1, made all the better with HTC’s Sense interface overhaul.
  • Like the HTC Imagio, it has a kickstand on the back
  • No date revealed
  • Looks similar to the HD2, but in white
  • Is on Sprint and has WiMax

As you can see from the shot above, the Supersonic is surely running the Sense UI, and reportedly runs Android 2.1. Now as for the pricing and a release date, we’re in the dark on that one, but you can be sure we’ll know in a few days, because with gadget leaks, when it rains, it pours. HTC Supersonic might be rendered, but it goes with the specs

With a leak from yesterday on the HTC Supersonic, a new image rendering has appeared just in time. Now, I have a good feeling that the above image of the HTC Supersonic, an Android with Sense UI phone that’s headed to Sprint and has WiMax, as well as a 4.3-inch touchscreen, is a great Photoshop rendering made by someone who does this for a living. Otherwise though, the appearance of the Supersonic (fake or real) matches up exactly with the leaked specs, and that’s where my doubt comes from. You decide.
