It’s always great to be successful, especially when you know the product you’re selling is well favored, but when you can’t supply that product to the consumer due to too much demand, that’s when the smiles fade away. I am precisely talking about the Droid Incredible by HTC. Due to part shortages like the 3.7-inch WVGA multitouch screen which is built by Samsung, Droid Incredibles cannot be produced. According to Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam, they “had to pull way back” on store deliveries and instead focus on online sales. In fact, demand has been so tight that within 48 hours of the Incredible’s release, 100,000 handsets were sold. As of the time of this writing, the Verizon web site claims all orders will be fulfilled by June 3rd. Very demanding indeed.
See that video up there? That’s a Droid Incredible, a shiny new Incredible, getting ripped apart, piece-by-piece. As some of you might know in the gadget industry, we always rip apart new gadgets just to see what’s exactly inside. In this case, the newest victim of this practice is Verizon’s new super Droid, the Incredible. Hit the button, and watch.
Today’s April 29th, and that means the best Droid out there, the Incredible is now officially for sale on Big Red for $199.99 on a two-year contract. For those of you interested in a month-to-month plan, you’ll pony up $529.99 for the handset. With that 8 megapixel camera, Android 2.1 with Sense, 3.7 WVGA AMOLED touchscreen, and 1GHz Snapdragon, I have a pretty good feeling this is the Droid you were looking for. But while you’re at it, check out the poll we’ve come up with:
For the few lucky ones who earned their Droid Incredibles early, we envy you. You see, there was a glitch in Verizon’s systems that allowed some phones to be shipped out early. The result? New owners posting theirgood luck on YouTube, while making the entire gadget world cringe in jealousy. Remember that the official launch is more than a week away, so this wasn’t a tiny glitch, but a glitchy glitch. Oh, and if you were hoping to snag one early, well I have some news for you, friend: the shipping error has been fixed. So there’s the end of the report, which is a bitter one to say the least.
It’s become very clear that the DROID Incredible is a superphone that rivals or nearly trumps the Nexus One in every aspect. The Nexus One has a 5 megapixel camera; the Droid Incredible has 8 megapixels, the Nexus One uses Android 2.1 with Google Experience, and the Incredible uses Sense UI, which is arguably the better UI out of the two. So then why in the world would Google want to have a Nexus One on Verizon, when you could get a phone with the Droid branding (which is no doubt very interesting)? My guess is that there are drawbacks to Verizon’s Incredible, possibly in the price sector. With rumors of the unsubsidized model being $599.99 while the Nexus One’s retail price is $529.99 off-contract, there will probably be a price difference in on-contract models, in the end only directing users to the Motorola Droid once again. Read on for the rest!
Here it is, here it is! The Droid Incredible is coming out on April 29th, and looks needless to say incredible. For those of you who might be wondering, the HTC Incredible site (not the waiting page) will resemble the Motorola Droid’s, and as I predicted with another editor from another blog (Giz), the HTC Incredible is borrowing the Droid branding. Anyone getting sudden shocks of Android madness in their chairs right now?
UPDATE: And now you’ll see that the page is asking for login credentials. Looks like either Verizon was giving all of us some bait to feed on, or it was a slip-up.
It’s the most leaked of all leaked smartphones of this leaky year. The HTC Incredible gets its name simply because it really is incredible. It’s officially coming out on April 29th exclusively on Verizon Wireless’ 3G speeds. And once more for you dear readers, I’ll repeat the official specs:
Android 2.1 with the new Sense UI
1Ghz Snapdragon processor (downclocked to 768Mhz)
8 megapixel camera with dual-flash
3.7″ WVGA (800×480) AMOLED screen
8GB internal storage but with 512 ROM later on in the spec sheet, so it’s a little confusing.
802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
Flash Lite 4.0
All of the Google Experience apps (Gmail, Google Maps Navigation, Calendar, YouTube, Search, etc.)
Our friends at Boy Genius Report have the full spec sheet that’s longer than your arm, so head over there to feast your eyes on leaked Verizon documents, if that’s your thing (it has to be, right?).
In the world of Android phones once again, there is one phone that is needless to say — Incredible. (And that would be the HTC Incredible, mind you). According to Android Forums member mikeydingo, a relative working in the landline-based service of Big Red asked a Verizon Wireless director about the launch date of the Incredible. After “some research” the release date was revealed to be April 29th, while the director’s response was “with a smirk”.
In the meantime, the official user manual has been also been leaked in full, complete with an outline of the Incredible’s body casing. And that’s the end of this post. This is Stef reporting, out.
