HTC switches to Super LCDs for the HTC Desire and Nexus One

As you may or may have not heard, Samsung is having a heck of a time producing Super AMOLED and regular AMOLED screens, and only wants to keep the screens for its Galaxy S line phones. Whereas Sony is full of Super LCD screens, which are very close to AMOLED screens and can be read in direct sunlight. HTC’s CEO Peter Chou remarked that the SLCDs are “comparable” to the older screens and offers more battery life.

Strangely, the Droid Incredible (which has stocking issues because of this) wasn’t mentioned in the press release. Otherwise, the SLCD rollout is “later this summer”, for the international Nexus One sold overseas (even though it’s not in the U.S) and HTC Desire. PR after the cut!

HTC Desire headed to “select regional operators” in August, will bring some Sense

The HTC Desire, by far one of the most beautiful handsets ever made, is headed to “select regional operators” in the month of August. Keeping in line the same specs as the Nexus One (1Ghz Snapdragon, Android 2.1 with Sense UI, 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED screen) the lines select regional operators means that the Desire won’t be headed to any of the big four: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile (in that order). So then, who’s ready and waiting? A lot, for sure.

US Cellular Taunts July Release For HTC Desire

Once again, US Cellular isn’t as afraid to talk about its upcoming handset like the first-tier carriers, and the upcoming July release of the HTC Desire is no exception. On their Facebook page today they confirmed that the HTC Desire, a Nexus One with more RAM and the new Sense UI, will be complete with a 3.7″ AMOLED touchscreen display, 5 MP camera with LED flash, Wi-Fi, GPS, Android 2.1 and a 8 GB microSD card.

HTC Desire officially headed to US Cellular

After lots of anticipation of the HTC Desire’s seemingly AT&T-exclusive debut, U.S Cellular has officially spread out the words on their Facebook wall and stated that the HTC Desire, complete with HTC Sense running on top of Android 2.1, a 5 megapixel camera, and 3.7 AMOLED 800x480 screen will be on their network ”coming this summer after our rigorous testing is complete”. So now that all’s said and done, U.S Cellular (not a top-tier 3G provider, mind you) did have one little tasty bit to leave on it’s FB page: “Now have fun guessing which other Android phone we’ll launch.” Interesting.

Leaked HTC Desire official U.S.A launch round-up

So today’s Saturday; the gadget world has come to a halt, the ninjas and tipsters asleep, and PR people (hello, Sarah!) are checking in and out of Foursquare. In one word, today is a boring news day. Slow Saturday if you will. But not for the HTC Desire, HTC’s fully-branded version of the Nexus One. The Desire packs in the same Snapdragon CPU, 512Mb of RAM, 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with multitouch, Android 2.1, and the new and improved Sense UI. What’s not to love?

Here’s what: There’s doubt it’s coming to the U.S.A. Well, let’s bash that idea, shall we? Boy Genius got himself some pretty good intel regarding a US launch of the Desire (and the Legend, as the Hero2). Afterwards, there was speculation that AT&T’s version would come in a different color variation, then the Silver Desire appeared. But that’s only BG’s intel. Here’s mine:

A pretty good ninja seems to have the goods on a United States Of America HTC Desire launch. And it’s on T-Mobile. There’s also word that several store managers are now training on how to use the HTC Desire and promote it, as well as keep secrecy.  Of course, you could just say, “Hey, maybe it’s just the HTC HD2!”. Wrong. An employee that spoke to a particular manager reported that the device “was large”, ran Android, and was the Desire. The manager also said it was “awesome”.

If it sounds like it, runs Android, and is in this post, it’s that the HTC Desire might be headed to T-Mobile in its original brown coating, while AT&T would get the silver. So the Desire would be featured on two carriers, while it’s Google-branded sibling, the Nexus One, would be on all four major US carriers. Now that was interesting, wasn’t it? Now let’s wait and see if this salt-drizzled rumor turns out to be a Desire in my pocket on either AT&T or T-Mobile networks.

Interesting HTC Desire unboxing and first run (video)

Well lookie here! We haven’t seen a HTC Desire unboxing before have we? While the retail packaging is not final, we at least have another good look from an Italian site at the brownish HTC Desire due on AT&T pretty soon, and of course there’s the story we broke, where the Desire might just come over to T-Mobile USA as according to store managers who’ve been testing it. Anyways, grab yourself a small bag of popcorn, and listen to jazz, which is highly unusual for the unboxing video embedded after the break.

LEAKED: T-Mobile employees training for HTC Desire release?

As much as this is off the tip of the hat, so to speak, this might just be the real deal here folks. A recent leak is that the HTC Desire, the Sense UI counterpart of the Nexus One, is making its way to T-Mobile instead of AT&T, or in extraordinary cases, both. A ninja that seems pretty accurate says that after speaking to three T-Mobile retail store managers one of the employees responded:

“My manager said that [he/she] trained on a phone but was sworn to secrecy. It’s probably the Desire…[he/she] said it was awesome and it was Android.”

The second manager responded that the handset he/she was training with was not the CLIQ XT, but was “all touchscreen” and “large”. Pretty much fits the bill of the Desire right? Of course, this is just a margarita drizzled with salt, so don’t come banging on our door if it’s not real; we’re posting this because we love you guys.
