DROID Pro is actually the DROID 2 GSM edition, LG enV Touch2 will run Android 2.1??

According to a very close source to Engadget, the DROID Pro is in fact the DROID 2, customized to have support for GSM SIM cards, and perhaps dual CDMA/GSM radios. The naming DROID Pro may not be final due to the fact that Verizon loves switching up names at the last minute (something I can actually confirm), so let’s let that rest.

On the flipside, the LG enV Touch 2 will be much like the enV Touch, but being bulky and having two screens, as well as Android 2.1.

So now here’s the 60k question: would you be disappointed if the DROID 2 were simply a SIM’d DROID 2, and not a Droid “pro”?

iPad 3G gets converted with T-Mobile service, it sends texts now

To add more than just leaked pics, analysis, cutting boards, and regular news to your slow Sunday evening, here is the iPad 3G using a T-Mobile SIM card on EDGE networks. The simplest way to get this simple hack working is just trimming your T-Mobile SIM card to a micro SIM size, and there’s even another hack that allows text messages to be sent, the second video of which is included in a little place called “after the line-break”.

New Blackberry Slider Spotted, Looks Like Mash-up of a Storm and the Bold

What you’re looking at above is what Boy Genius calls the upcoming Blackberry slider. There’s no confirmation if this is real, so get your tin foil hats on. Moving along, this QWERTY slider wouldn’t slide out horizontally like many of HTC’s phones and the Motorola Droid, but would slide out vertically, exactly like Palm’s Pre. There’s no word if it would be exactly like the Magnum/Dakota prototypes which had a touchscreen and a keyboard, meaning that it might get the keyboard but no touchscreen, but we believe it will have a fully capacitive touchscreen. Otherwise here are the specs that are rumored for this device:

  • It will run Blackberry OS 6.0.
  • It will “100 percent support  802.11n Wi-Fi”.
  • The resolution, unfortunately, has not increased, and will stay at 360x480.
  • It will have a Bold-like keyboard and slides out like the Pre.
  • And lastly, it won’t be a Verizon exclusive — instead it’s a GSM/HSPA device.

But besides the question if this actually exists, the more important question is: Would you actually buy a Palm Pre-like Blackberry with a new OS (hopefully with a better browser), that uses GSM, and looks like a Photoshop of a Bold and Storm 9520 getting fused? In my opinion: Maybe.

BlackBerry Storm2 9550 Review

Say the word “Blackberry”. The first thing that comes to mind is an elegant young man walking around New York City with his briefcase, sleek and expensive suit, and his – Blackberry Storm2. The Storm2 improves upon the mistakes of the original Storm, while still retaining its good looks, great network, and reasonable price. The look and feel of the Storm2 is a nearly well-crafted experience;  a strong presence, but not intimidating. In simpler words, it has enough solid features to make it the “flagship” BlackBerry. In-depth review after the break. Oh, and better late then never, right? We’ve finally reviewed a Blackberry.

Sony Ericsson Aspen: Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Debut

What has people buzzing around the business-like Aspen is not its specs (far from the contrary): a full-QWERTY keypad, 2.4″ QVGA dispaly, 3.2 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and SPB Mobile Shell sitting on top of Windows Mobile 6.5.3. But it’s exactly that. Yes, it’s Windows Mobile 6.5.3 that has people buzzing, and what it brings. Microsoft has finally put in mind that fingers are the future on handsets, and now the UI is more finger-friendly — meaning no more crappy styluses. It also brings support for capacitive touchscreens (huzzah!), and can act as a platform to bring multitouch. As for radio bands, you’ll have quad-band GSM/EDGE with either HSPA 900/2100 or 850/900/2100 radios (depending on the region). Coming in Q2 of 2010.

As for the Aspen itself, it is part of Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart portfolio; handsets that are eco-friendly. It comes in either black or white, and with things like the charger and the box being made out of eco-frendly material. One more slide and Sony Ericsson site link after the break.

GSM encryption hacked… unfortunately

Nearly everything we do with modern technology is encrypted. From cellphones, to credit cards, online banking, you name it. But now, 24 hackers from Berlin have hacked the 21-year-old technology of A5/1, which is an algorithm to encrypt GSM voice conversations. The 64-bit keys are now as easy as a book to read, and the only fix for this security breach is the newer 128-bit A5/3 algorithm.

Although of course the voice providers ignore Karsten Nohl, a PhD from the University of Virginia, saying that since it’s illegal to hack a GSM network, he (or anyone who has his 2TB codebook that’s available as a torrent) would ever do it.

T-Mobile G1 Review: A Look Back in Time

Remember the T-Mobile G1? The very first Android phone? Remember that it has no sense of style and nearly no battery? Well, if you don’t, let me refresh your mind. With talk of the “Official” Google Phone right now, aka the “Nexus One”, it is probably good policy to give a review of the phone that’s closet to being the official Google Phone. I’ll be dividing the review into a few important categories so it’s easy to read and understand. Check it out after the jump.

The Google Phone is confirmed!

image

The Google Phone is officially the HTC Passion that we all dreamed about. Currently what’s known about the Google Phone is that it contains an OLED screen, a large camera, and is unlocked as a GSM phone. It runs Android 2.1, and will be launched in January of 2010 with the name “Google Phone”.

It also has 2 mics, one to get rid of outside noise, and one for speaking; it contains a speedy Snapdragon chip, and is thinner than the iPhone, but contains no keyboard. To make up for that loss however, you can dictate it to write emails using your voice.

Stay Tuned for more as this story develops.
