Motorola Droid and Lego Solve The Rubik’s Cube In 25 Seconds

Using a Lego Mindstorms NXT kit along with a Motorola Droid, this combination known as the “Speedcuber” solves a Rubik’s Cube puzzle in 25 seconds. First off, the Motorola Droid had an app running that uses the camera to send picture to the NXT robot via Bluetooth, which then solves the puzzle.

The Speedcuber was created by the folks at ARM, which is what the Droid’s processor is based upon. Check out the video above for some quarter of a minute action.

Awesome: The Pac-Man Cutting Board.

This work of art is priced at a lofty $165, but who wouldn’t buy it? It’s a cutting board with the familiar Pac-Man going after pellets! NOM-NOM-NOM! And the handmade end-grain board is made out of “walnut, hard-maple, and cherry put together with FDA approved, water-proof glue, and treated with a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax.” And since it is end-grain, it’ll last and is very durable, so knife marks wouldn’t kill your investment. If I were you, I’d buy one just as a display. Price: $165.

Nexus One “won’t be carried by Verizon”, says Verizon? (update: Wrong. Great.)

Talk about confusion, or maybe strange PR emails. In my quest of finding out whether or not the Nexus One by Google and HTC will ever head to Verizon; with that “coming soon” option on the Google Phone Store sitting there forever, what I found might have some doubts of whether or not a PR contact that I have at Verizon Wireless is speaking the direct truth from their superiors, but here’s what came up in the reply field:

“Thank you for your question. Google’s Nexus One phone will not be carried by Verizon Wireless. You will have to contact Google directly for any information. It would be inappropriate for me to answer questions on a phone that Verizon Wireless won’t sell.”

This could simply mean that Verizon just won’t sell the Nexus One in its retail stores, and that Google, as previously rumored, would take care of that. But that extra line, “Google’s Nexus One phone will not be carried by Verizon Wireless,” is a little strange to me, and probably wrong (hopefully?). While I try to get more info on this, I’ll leave this to the Internets to discuss. And no troll flaming guys.

UPDATE: You could definitely say that VZW will support the Nexus One, but won’t sell it, and Google will. So that’s that, I guess (?). Now onto the usual programming…

Microsoft launches Kin 1 and Kin 2 phones on Verizon, coming in May

There they are. The Kin One and Kin Two. Both aimed at young whipper-snappers (like myself).  But this is a news report article, so let’s talk about the Kin series first. The Kin 1 (rumored as the “Turtle”), sports a QVGA screen, 5 megapixel camera, 4GB of built-in storage, a Zune music player, and a “one-handed” slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Kin 2 (rumored as the “Pure”) contains an 8 megapixel camera for HD recording, HVGA screen, 8GB of memory (which cannot be expanded on either of the devices), two-handed QWERTY, and the KIN operating system which borrows many elements from Windows Phone 7, except all more social oriented, and supposedly fitted for use on the tiny screens.

The main homescreen, called “The Loop” will make you go loopy at how all over the place it is, which raises some questions on to how usable these phones really are. The first things that you see are contacts, Twitter feeds, Facebook, etc. where you can easily tap on them for access to them. The Zune music player works exactly like a Zune music player, that is to say large fonts and lots of slow-motion but cool scrolling. Both phones will also work with the Zune Pass, so technically this is as close as a Zune Phone you’re going to get. Both phones launch in May on Verizon for an undisclosed price.  These phones aren’t what you would call smartphone per se, but they are nice little feature phones which trick you into thinking they are. For example, both Kin phones don’t have a calendar app or an app store. You can check out the rest at Kin.com

Still I wouldn’t have any problems with reviewing them. Press release after the break, kiddies!

Oh, and I’d like to make it clear: “Kin” is not a cool name for a phone. But it’s very interesting.
