Amazon Launches New Thin, Light Kindle with Wi-Fi, Starting At $139
by Stefan Etienne on 29. Jul, 2010 2:57PM in E-Readers, Gadgets, Hardware, News
The successor to the Amazon Kindle 2 — in other words — thinner, lighter, less expensive, and Wi-Fi enabled, with the same 6-inch screen but with 50% better contrast and a 21% smaller footprint with 20% faster page turns. There’s also double the built-in memory — 4GB. The pricing is $189 for Wi-Fi plus 3G model and $139 Wi-Fi only.
To double on the new improvements and features, Amazon loaded an experimental Webkit browser that takes a millennium to load and provides only one form of salvation — an article mode which formats articles to be exactly like the eBooks on the reader. The new Kindle starts pre-ordering today.

Borders has launched itself into the frying pan and into the fire. No, really. The rough eBook market is no place for newcomers, and Borders just got into it with its eBook Store powered by Kobo with Blackberry and Android apps also taking part in the fray. Once you do purchase an eBook from Borders, you can read it on your PC or Mac, as well as your iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry, or Android-powered mobile phone.
And what’s a new eBook service without a dedicated eBook reader? the Kobo eReader which includes a 6-inch e-ink screen, support for flexible fonts, desktop syncing, bluetooth syncing with a smartphone, 1GB storage and a 4-way d-pad with center selection will be available at retail and online stores. Kindle for Android launches on the Android Market
by Stefan Etienne on 28. Jun, 2010 10:35PM in Android, Apps, E-Readers

The Kindle for Android app is to say the least the best reader app you’ll find on an Android phone, much like the iPhone 4 and the iBooks app. Starting today, Android 1.6 users and up can have full access to the app and browse through or download 600,000 of Amazon’s full eBook cataloge. The full bummer here though is that you can’t view or purchase Amazon’s newspapers, magazines, an blog databases. That’s a real failure, if you ask me .But still, this will deserve a nice space on your homescreen now, won’t it?

Barnes & Noble plans B&N Reader app for iPad around launch
by Stefan Etienne on 11. Mar, 2010 1:12PM in Apple, E-Readers, News
The iPad isn’t even out yet, and the eBook app wars have begun! Barnes & Noble is promising the book savvy that “around the time” of the slate’s launch, a B&N Reader app for access to their 1 million+ eBookStore catalog will be “designed specifically” for the iPad. That means you’d have books, magazines and newspapers at your fingertips, and might even be able to dodge Apple’s prices on books, whether it be small or high. Now where’s that Kindle app?

Barnes & Noble’s Nook Is Finally In Stock Again
by Stefan Etienne on 08. Feb, 2010 12:55PM in E-Readers, News

Just in time for Valentines Day, Barnes & Noble has gotten its manufacturing act back together. If you remember the numerous delays for the Nook, BN said things would be back to normal around now, and everything is. So if you have an extreme love of books (and gadgets), then the Nook is right up your alley. And as an added bonus, Barnes has started its exclusive “More In Store” content. When you do buy your Nook you’ll be presented with a short story by Adriana Trigiani, a red velvet cupcakes recipe by Anne Byrn, the Cake Mix Doctor, and finally a little something called “Read Between the Wines”, by wine expert Kevin Zraly, a dude who will tell you what to drink in terms of wine. PR after the jump, people.
