Motorola details the Android 2.1 update for Droid

Moto already dropped the bomb on their Facebook page, but simply saying the Droid is getting Android 2.1 is not enough, is it? Which is why at the source link below there’s the release notes. Otherwise, as a recap for those of you who are ignorant of the update’s offerings, the Droid will get full multitouch in Maps, Browser, and Gallery, as well as an improved virtual keyboard, voice recognition updates, the new 3D Gallery, Google Goggles, and a few other minor bug fixes. No alert as to when the update will be put over-the-air, but Moto says users should get an alert when it’s ready.

Motorola: DROID Is Getting Android 2.1 “this week”

While we knew the Droid would be getting Android 2.1 in all of its multitouch glory, we didn’t know when. Well, now Motorola is claiming on its Facebook page that the 2.1 OTA update “will start to roll out this week”. Meaning that now, both of the permier Android devices — Motorola’s Droid and Google’s Nexus One — will have full multitouch capabilities, becoming even more a threat to the iPhone, and both will become even more awesome as well. Motorola Droid gets multitouch support — in Google Maps

Feeling left out after Nexus One owners now have multitouch? Now the Droid at least has a multitouch support feature somewhere now. You can pinch-and-zoom your way through Google Maps if you download the update in the market right now. Afterwards, the Europeans are the only ones who have their Milestones with full multitouch right now, but at least this is something. But now we know something for sure with Google: when it rains, it pours.
