According to BerryScoop, the upcoming HTC Incredible will launch on April 1st, the same day as the HTC Droid Eris will make its exit. What’s the strange connection here is that the Incredible would not simply be a new phone in Verizon’s system, but it would replace the Eris. Furthermore, Verizon is viewing the Incredible as their Nexus One that they would promote in stores. The upcoming CDMA Nexus One would have no place in a Verizon store the “source” claims, but instead would be sold online by Google. Sounds a little off to us, no?

Yes you must. Why would you want to stick with Android 1.5 on your Sense UI beast? According to numerous sources, Sense UI works great, and has the new touches that its friends the Desire and Legend have; the leak is courtesy from the always-working xda-developers. Of course, you could risk destroying your phone and your data, but anything for some Android 2.1 goodness, right? Right? OK maybe not, but the Sprint Hero ROM has been leaked as well. There’s another good excuse. Check out the source links on how to get started, but be careful ‘kay?

While there’s no real confirmation that your old and rusty T-Mobile G1 will make the cut to Android 2.1, there’s lots of hope it will. According to AndroidandMe, all I repeat all, US Android phones would get version 2.1. Although some of the updated phones would be much like the Droid’s upcoming update — snazzy stuff like the live wallpapers and 3D app menu won’t make the cut, but you’ll still get all the awesome widgets and baseline features of Eclair. And to cut back on install failures, one of the rumored forms of upgrading your phone would be via a PC, which would ensure a safe and complete install.

Because this would be done on such a large scale, a sacrifice must be made: some phones will require an entire wipe. All of it. Your phone would be re-born again and you’d have to teach it all of your tricks (and stuff all of your junk) back into it. You’d have the latest and greatest version of Android though. While there’s no real confirmation on this, Google has admitted that Android versions are in a thousand pieces right now. Expect the first 2 phones to get 2.1 will be the G1 (if it can handle it) and the myTouch 3G. Confirmation and the like should appear in the coming weeks.

Call this situation puzzling. As it seems, some Droid Eris owners are reporting that they are able to update their handsets to Android 2.1 — in a bricked mode; in fact this version of Android 2.1 has no Sense UI and completely wipes out your data, and to only make things worse, owners are not able to log into their Google accounts either. Looks like someone’s going to get fired for this slip-up. On the flipside, Verizon has been saying for a while now that the Eris would get a newer version of Android, but never mentioned which. As a word of precaution, we suggest you back up your Eris pronto.

MOTO Development Group has plenty of fingers to go around to test today’s capacitive touchscreens. In a recent DIY and scientific-based test, the iPhone knocked out the Droid, Droid Eris, and Google Nexus One, but only by a slight margin (except the Droid, which is the worst). The lines above, show that the iPhone has sleek, precise lines that are drawn with a finger. The Motorola Droid has the lowest score, while the HTC Droid Eris is only slightly better. The Nexus One? Almost as good as the iPhone. According to MOTO:

The iPhone’s touch sensor showed the most linear tracking with the least amount of stair-stepping. The Droid Eris and Nexus One tied for second with only faint wiggling – but actually performed best at the edge of the screen. Last in the line-up was the Motorola Droid, which demonstrated significant wavy artifacts or “stair-stepping.”
