Symbian Source Code is now open for all, calling all devs

Today is a big day for the world’s largest but probably least recognized mobile operating system:  Nokia Symbian. Today the Symbian Foundation has opened up its source code, and it is available to anyone who pleases to do have access to it. Android finally has an open source counterpart that it can compete with. As for anyone who has a compatible device, Symbian can be installed on that device for free .Soon the team at Symbian Foundation will publish its platform roadmap and planned features up to 2011, and the notes can be expanded and edited based on how much devs contribute to the mobile OS. The full source code is now available at Symbian’s developer site link after the break.

chrome_dell

There! Another reason for you to buy a Mini 10v from Dell. When I said you could Hackintosh it in my “Holiday Gift Guide”, it wasn’t enough, was it? Thanks to Dell, Chrome OS can run on its native platform (a netbook), and you can even use Wi-Fi.  The ISO can only function if you put it on a USB stick (8GB minimum).

Google Chrome OS developer interviewed, and screenshot of Chrome is found

GoogleOSChrome1 copy

The teens at Techxav have caught on to something. After interviewing a Google OS developer, they received a screenshot of the OS. And the dev gave lots of info on questions asked of him, including why Google is creating a OS.

Here’s a quick exchange:

Dustin Snider: Okay, Why is Google creating an operating system in the first place?

Google OS Developer: Well at Google we are always trying to make things simpler like you can see in many ways such as our homepage and all Google Apps even Chrome so when we looked what needs to be simpler it came up that many people want to get on the web check there email do a little browsing in fast way. The problem right now is most Operating Systems take a while to load up then you have to wait for all your applications to open; resulting in cutting the amount of time you want to spend on the web in half. So after a few studies we have learned building our own OS allowing people to just get on the web and check the Google Apps in a fast way will give people a better sense of the computer and bring operating systems to the next level.

inapppurchasesUntil now, all premium apps had a free version on the App Store. But now, when you download a free app, you will get the option to buy the premium version. Meaning less clutter in your iPhone. So all apps are now  really only one app. Get it?

Now, here’s the problem. When you download a free app, you shouldn’t annoyed with messages to buy the premium version, (in my case). It would be practical (and user friendly) if the option to buy those premium versions where only links in the app, and not “Buy the Premium Version Now” messages.
