Apple sells a million iPads in 28 days

If you doubt the sucess of the iPad, then you’ll have to suck it all up here. We already knew the iPad was selling like hotcakes, but not this well. According to a statement by Apple, they have sold 1 million iPads in 28 days, which tramples the 74 days it took to sell 1 million iPhone EDGEs. Out of the 1 million iPads, 300,000 were sold only this weekend, and in total have also downloaded 1.5 million iBooks from the iBooksStore, as well as 12 million apps downloaded from the iTunes App Store. The press release is after the “read more” link.

Apple Delays The International iPad Launch…Magically?

Magic. It’s a word Apple is over-using right now and a word we tech journalists use too much out in the field, and on our couches blogging for our respective media outlets. Anyways, on to the news: the international iPad launch is delayed till the end of May, like magic I suppose. Hope that brightens your day! In fact, a large chunk of this site’s traffic comes from foreign countries, mainly the UK (after the U.S that is), meaning that a lot of you are screaming your heads off right now.

According to the Big Apple, the main reason for the delay is that they “delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week” in the U.S, with pre-orders and store sales  being “far higher than we predicted”. So you’ll have to wait a bit longer for your iPad Europeans, like our friend, Chris Davies.

Estimate: Apple iPad sold about 120,000 units on Friday

So there’s the shocker of the morning. The Apple iPad, a slate so hated (so it seems), has been quite a success on its first day of pre-order, without most people even knowing what it feels like, and are currently betting on the usual Apple quality.

From the first estimates by Apple on Saturday, the iPad sold about 120,000 units, most of which were the Wi-Fi only version, and almost evenly split among 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB size variations. What those storage numbers mean is that people seem to be pretty willing to shed some bucks for more space, and some Apple execs are probably jumping in their chairs about now.

Oh, and in terms of actual cash, Apple made close to $75 million at a rate of 25,000 units sold every hour.

Cha-ching!

Apple Tablet devices tracked by Flurry near Apple Campus?

Mobile app analytics firm Flurry has released a report dating back to October of last year. Starting in October, and and increasing in January, 50 unknown Apple devices of which Flurry claims has tablet-like specs downloaded at least 200 applications, all of which had to do with games, multimedia, and lifestyle. Which is all of the categories that we think the Apple Tablet fits. Also, another interesting fact is that the iPhone OS detected was not 3.0, or even 4.0, but 3.2. So the Apple Tablet will run iPhone OS 3.2? We don’t know. What’s more is that these devices were traced back to Apple’s Cupertino campus, and not anywhere else.  But since Flurry hasn’t released the specs yet, I’m still a skeptic, although it looks entirely real. But remember, in two days, tomorrow will just be a day away, right?

AllThingsD: Apple Making “Major Announcement” on Jan 27th

Are you low on Apple Tablet news? Then look no more! Except according to this report, you’ll have to wait one more day for the Apple Tablet.  AllThingsD is reporting that Apple is getting ready to make a “Major  Announcement” on the 27th of this month, and not the 26th like previous reports suggested. What’s making this even more interesting is that they say it will be at the Yerba Buena Center, and will be a “major new product”. Wait, there’s more. A French site called Mac4Ever reports that developers are working with the beta iPhone OS 4.0 SDk, and the devs are reformatting their apps for a larger screened device. I think I like where this is going.

Apple owns mysterious iSlate.com domain, is it for a tablet?

Going back into Apple Tablet rumors (and full news coverage at LaptopMemo), we’ve learned that the mysterious, strange, and secret Apple tablet has the possible name of iSlate. Why? Well, back in 2007, Apple registered the iSlate domain under an intermediary (so they’re not found out to be the actual owners). Even though this is a double rumor, there are some decent explanations that could explain why Apple owns this domain. first for example, it could just be to protect the “i” that Apple is famous for, or it could be that’s it’s for the tablet, and it could even be for a future project Apple has in mind. And don’t forget that the New York Times’ Executive Editor Bill Keller who said the words “Apple Slate” in a speech.Whatever it’s for, it’s intriguing, no? BTW, Happy Holidays!
