Now for those of you who are extremely excited over the Nexus One, just try to remember that Google releasing this smartphone is a rumor, and we’re not completely sure of it yet. Remember it could just be another Dev Phone for developers only.

Oh, what the heck! Let the speculation fly, because we have more for you. Google has just filed a trademark for the name “Nexus One”, but it could possibly bring them legal troubles. The “Nexus” name belongs to Philip K. Dick, who created the Nexus-6 replicants in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and also in Blade Runner. Philip’s daughter is in charge of his licensing work — and you guessed it — she’s contacted lawyers to talk about it, and isn’t happy that Google didn’t ask for permission to use the name. She also stated that she would have been fine with it if she was contacted about it earlier.

So Google, wanna talk about the Nexus One’s name now? You’ll have to.

Smokers: Beware! According to an news story published by Consumerist, two Mac owners (who puff their Marlboro with pride and had extended AppleCare warranties) were denied help from Apple when their Macs were in need of service. Why? Because according to the Operational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the nicotine released from cigarettes can be classified as a bio-hazard and exposing your Mac to such conditions makes it contaminated with the chemical, so the Apple Genius employees are within their rights to not work on those machines. In fact, the two owners wrote to Steve Jobs’ office, and were turned down. The only form of help Apple offered was to take the computers somewhere else to be fixed, on their dollars. So here’s the question: Should Apple be allowed to reject service to your Mac if you smoke, even a little? There isn’t anything about not smoking in the AppleCare agreement.

UPDATED

AT&T has just lost the first round of the “There’s a Map for That” case. The judge dismissed AT&T’s wish for all of Verizon’s ads to be pulled off the air. But one interesting note: the judge said the ads were “sneaky”, and that people might be mislead because “most people who are watching TV are semi-catatonic.” He could be right?? We’ll know for sure soon, since the next hearing is on December 16th.

But that’s another fight for another day, so far Verizon is winning this.

UPDATED: According to Boy Genius Report, AT&T has launched their own ad against Verizon. Here it is:
