Canon Rebel T2i: 18 Megapixel Stills, 1080p Video, Costs $899

The oh-so-wonderful Canon Rebel T2i is the perfect DSLR for anyone who can’t buy the perfect DSLR. For $899 you’d get an 18.7 megapixel senor (18.7 MP!) at 3.7 fps, the 7D’s style of light metering and better ISO range; 100 to 6400. Even more amazing is the 30 / 25 / 24 fps 1080p HD video shooting, as well as 720p (also HD) at 50 / 60 fps and VGA at similar speeds. This camera can also do a “movie crop”, where you would get 7x more zoom by cropping on the CMOS sensor without losing quality in the SD card. Translation: This is the best entry-level DSLR camera you can get, on paper. The T2i will come out in March for $800 (body only), or with a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens kit which would set you back at about $900. PR after the break!

Samsung outs new TL, HZ, and SL-series cameras

Point-and-shoots. The lowest grade of camera. Inferior to DSLRs. But well priced. Moving on now, Samsung has released 5 of them (don’t ask how hard it is to write about 5 different cameras at once, thanks). Starting off, the HZ30W and HZ 35W both have a 12MP sensor, 15x optical zoom, a 24mm wide-angle lens, 3-inch AMOLED (or LCD) screen, and in the more expensive models, geo-tagging. The new HZ cameras are coming sometime in March for an unknown price.

The other two lines of cameras (which I will not go into because naturally, point-and-shoots are boring) will be sporting 12 or 14MP sensors, 720p video recording, 5x optical zoom, and some of Samsung’s image stabilization technology. those 2 series will launch sometime in February, for an unknown price. And I think I’ll leave it at that. Press releases after the jump. [Samsung]

Samsung NX10 Is Official, NX Format Now Available for Everyone

Samsung’s new NX10 camera is a “hybrid DSLR”. The main feature of the un-handsome NX10 is its size, which is smaller than your average DSLR, but has the same image quality. The 14.6 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor gives you the DSLR-like photo quality, with a 3-inch AMOLED screen and contrast AF giving you the complete package. There’s 720p H.264-encoded video recording also, but the major compromise is the new NX lens mounting format. Translation: Any lenses you own, you’ll have to buy again,  just for this (dare I say) “mini DSLR”.  No pricing as of yet, but the expected launch date is “Spring 2010″, and you can be sure it will appear at CES. In the meantime there’s full PR after the jump and a spec sheet.

Motorola DROID camera autofocus fixed as if by magic

DROID by Motorola Back

Now this is weird. While there are problems with the Droid’s speaker, its camera had “red corner” autofocus issues, as of now, that problem has gone away without any visible updates being made to the Droid. Meaning that Moto probably snuck out a secret update overnight, and fixed everybody’s camera. Strange isn’t it?

Casio Exlim EX-FH25 & EX-FC150 are both getting an upgrade

500x_fh25

Casio’s Exlim line of cameras have gotten an upgrade, so to speak. 1,000fps shooting mode is the eyebrow-raiser. These are 10-megapixel cameras which are going to get a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor. The FH25 (contains 20x superzoom) performs with 40fps high-speed bursts at 9-megapixels (previously 7). And to make this less confusing, the FH25 is the camera above.

500x_fc100

Both of them are coming to the US, though Japan will get it first, on November 27th. No pricing yet.

Stay Tuned.

Canon has deployed an army of new cameras to take over the world.

The star of the show is the G11, with a 10 megapixel sensor, 2.8-inch vari-angle, 5x optical zoom, RAW support, and a MSRP of $499.99. It’s for professionals, duh.

Next is the $429.99 Powershot S90, it houses a 3-inch LCD, 10 megapixel sensor, DIGIC 4 processing engine, RAW support and 3.8x optical zoom. The SX20 IS  will retail for $399.99, has a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 720p (30fps) video, HDMI output, 20x optical zoom and 2.5-inch vari-angle display. Next is the SX120 IS, it houses a 10 megapixel sensor, 3-inch LCD, 10x optical zoom, and AA battery support all for the softer price of $249.99. There are 2 more cameras, the SD980 IS and SD940 IS, but I’m not talking about them here though, because Canon gave me too much of a writing workout, hit the Canon link for the whole press release.
