Samsung Wave: 3.3-inch Super AMOLED, Bada OS, 1GHz CPU, no Multitouch

Another smartphone. And Samsung’s Bada OS debut. The Samsung Wave is the first entry into the Bada OS spectrum, where Samsung plans for the Wave to be open to everyone and anyone. And of course what is a smartphone without killer specs? Sammy made sure that the Wave comes in as a tsunami, and that’s where the 1GHz CPU comes in, then a 3.3-inch “Super AMOLED” touchscreen that allows you to actually use it in sunlight, but contains no multitouch; TouchWIZ UI 3.0 is in the new and fresh Bada OS, which allows up to 10 homescreens, and SocialHub for managing all of your email and social media accounts in one window. Other specs include, a 5 megapixel camera, aGPS, accelerometer, 802.11n Wi-Fi, 2GB or 8GB of storage space, microSD expansion slot, multi-codec support for DivX, XviD, MP3 and WMV, and support for virtual 5.1 surround sound and 720p recording / decoding. Samsung Apps will be your main app store if you’re wondering, and full Flash support is also present, which will be available in over 50 countries. So far the Wave isn’t really a tsunami, but it does pack in some great features to consider. Case in point: we’re skeptical. PR after the jump. Oh, and look for it sometime in April.

Breaking: New Google Nexus One Update Adds Multitouch, Improves 3G

Huzzah! While the iPhone got its new OS today, Google’s Android team wasn’t going to sit around and watch Apple take the show would they? A new update to the Nexus One that fixes 3G issues, includes Google Goggles by default, and a new version of Google Maps that adds suggestions and dedicated night mode. But the big feature? Multitouch on the Nexus One in Maps, Gallery, and Browser. Simply. Awesome. [Google]

UPDATE: In order to get this delicious update, go to Settings > About phone > System Updates. Google is gradually sending out the OTA updates over the course of this week, so you may not get it yet, but go ahead and check! Oh and report here on what you have to say!

Nexus One getting data outage nationwide? (update: back in shape)

Looks like T-Mobile better get its towers into check or else. According to numerous complaints, Nexus One owners have been without data for the past couple of hours, and things aren’t improving yet. As for myself, I only wish I could get a Nexus One, and of course, I’d review it. Hmm, I wonder who I can contact? Oh, and here’s a poll on whether or not your Nexus One is actually functional.

Update: Looks like things might be okay now. If they aren’t, it’s suggested to reboot your Sexy Nexy.

Breaking: Apple reports record earnings for Q1 2010

It’s breaking news! Apple has posted its record earnings for the first quarter of 2010, which for Apple ended on December 26th, 2009. The results are very grand, and the figures are nothing short of that. What these new sales figures also do is that now, Apple is officially a 50+ billion-a-year company. Here the numbers speak for themselves, in a big way:

Revenue of $15.68 billion ($11.88 billion in Q1 2009)
58% of revenue derived from international sales
Net quarterly profit of $3.38 billion or $3.67 per diluted share ($2.26 billion, or $2.50 per diluted share in Q1 2009)
Gross margin of 40.9 percent (37.9 % in Q1 2009)
$5.8 billion generated in cold hard cash

This translates into 3.36 million Macs and 8.7 million iPhones sold, which represents a 33% unit increase for Macintosh sales and 100% unit growth for the iPhone when compared to Q1 2009. The only minor hiccup here is iPod sales; Apple sold 21 million iPods which is 8% less than Q1 2009. Besides amazing sales figures, and Jobs’ alleged statement of the Apple Tablet: “This will be the most important thing I’ve ever done”, he also said, and officially (mind you), “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about.”

Palm Pre & Pixi Plus Going To Verizon January 25th

The Wi-Fi equipped Palm Pixi Plus is headed to Verizon Wireless on January 25th. That’s really the only difference between the Sprint Pixi and the Verizon one. As for the Palm Pre Plus, it has 2x the internal RAM of the original model, 16GB storage, no navigational button, and a built-in inductive back cover for Touchstone inductive charging. A Flash 10.1 app will “soon” be available at the App Catalog for the Palm Pre Plus only. As for pricing, Verizon isn’t talking about that — yet. UPDATE: Press release after the jump!

Alienware M11x “Netbook” Can Play Crysis, Costs Less Than $1,000 (update)

As much as the above title might deceive you, that’s what’s going on right now at CES. This “netbook” has am 11.6-inch display, NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics, rumored 6.5 hours of battery life on integrated and “over 2 hours” on gaming mode. That’s all for now, but you can be sure we’ll be ready to post any new details once they come out. UPDATE: After speaking to a person that will remain anonymous here, the M11X “isn’t coming out in the next several weeks”. Stay Tuned.

Nexus One Gets a Teardown, Reveals 802.11n Wi-Fi and FM Transmitter

Who knew? Even though up there I have a banner explaining the Nexus One, I didn’t know about this myself! iFixit (as usual) has teardowned the poor Nexus One to pieces and made 2 interesting discoveries. One, according to the Google spec page, the N1 has a 802.11n Wi-Fi transmitter, even though HTC only lists it as 802.11b/g. Two, there’s an FM transmitter as well. Other things of interest found is a Samsung-branded OLED display, Qualcomm QSD8250 “Snapdragon” 1 GHz ARM processor, Synaptics touchscreen controller. Then there’s the Broadcom chip labeled Broadcom BCM4329EKUBG, which is what provides Wi-Fi to the Nexus One. Hit the source link for the full teardown.
