iPhone OS 4.0 event being held April 8th!

Whoa, whoa, whoa. It looks like it’s pouring apples! Apple has officially announced that iPhone OS 4.0 will have an event of its own in 3 days time — April 8th. You know what that means: new iPhone afterwards. This is still developing, so sit tight for an update…

This announcement comes only days after the iPad launch, hinting at something big in the works at the cubicles of Cupertino. For sure, developers will have the chance to incorporate new features into their apps, and will possible learn and have more tools to develop apps on the iPad, creating even better experiences. Also, since this OS has the word “iPhone” in it, you can be betting the Internets that there will be some new iPhone 4 rumors popping about. Anyway, we’ll know more in 3 days.

64GB Zune HD launching April 12th for $350, other models see $20 drop

Let’s put this out of the way as quickly as we can. To cut a press release and details after the break into a few sentences, the Zune HD will be available in a 64GB storage configuration on April 12th for $349.99 on the official Zune online store, with retailers coming in for the ride later. Ouch, pricey. In the meantime the 32GB and 16Gb will get a $20 price drop, $270 and $200 respectively. As for the Zune firmware v4.5 update, Microsoft had this to say: “in the coming days.” Okay, Microsoft, as long as it’s “in the coming days”. Press release after the jump.

WSJ: Apple developing new iPhone, plus one for Verizon, could be called iPhone HD

Straight from the Wall Street Journal is some pretty major news regarding the new iPhone, usually due every summer. In the report, the WSJ revealed that Apple is “developing a new iPhone to debut this summer,” and is also “working on another model for US mobile phone operator Verizon Wireless.” For the moment, the sources and proof are nowhere to be found, only adding to the anger if this turns out to be a sour leak, but that’s a risk we gadget blogs take everyday (and the reader, too).

But to further attempt to confirm their findings, the WSJ states that the “next iPhone is being manufactured by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry,” which is essentially FoxConn, while the Verizon CDMA version would be produced by Pegatron Technology this September, long ahead of the purported Tuesday June 22nd press conference/announcement.

Let’s put some more flames on the inferno? The new iPhone is believed to have the name “iPhone HD”, possibly meaning that the screen will have a higher-res to combat with the likes of the Nexus One, EVO 4G, and HTC HD2 (all of the latter produced by HTC). So who’s willing to hope for the AT&T grip on the iPhone to end and some new “iPhone HD” leaks to roll along? You bet we are, and we’re willing and ready to break some of them. Got that, tipsters?

HTC HD2 gets ported version of Windows Phone 7, could be released before official launch (video)

Look, look! Look at the headline in this post! Yeah, that! Due to some hard work by some Russian developers from who-knows-where, Windows Phone 7 Series is officially running on the HTC HD2. To further excite your cravings for some WP7 action, htcpedia is claiming that Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and nearly everything else is working, except the graphics driver, which is causing some lag. But if this can emerge into a beta, then there will be some serious hacking going around. In fact, the projected release for “Windows Phone 7 on your HD2″ could be well before the official launch on devices that meet official qualifications. Video after the jump, full content at the source link.

HTC EVO 4G is Sprint’s heavy-power 4G Android 2.1 handset with Sense UI and Snapdragon

For a long while now we’ve been seeing rumors of a WiMAX-powered handset dubbed the HTC “Supersonic“. No more, it’s the EVO 4G now! Sprint’s most powerful handset is powered by a CDMA version of the Snapdragon found in the Desire and Nexus One, has a 480 x 800 4.3-inch TFT LCD, 1GB of built-in memory and 512MB of RAM, a bigger battery than the HD2, an 8 megapixel camera that can record 720p video, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for good use, HDMI-out, 802.11b/g WiFi, and a 8GB microSD card. Android 2.1 has the latest Sense UI coating on it, complete with live wallpapers and Adobe Flash.

In shorter words, the Nexus One just got owned.

What’s truly amazing is the WiMAX 4G with 3G technology. The HTC EVO uses EV-DO Rev A. as the phone-calling radios and 4G or 3G if you like for data processing. The EVO 4G can also be used as a MiFi hotspot which can support up to eight users over 4G and very possibly 3G coverage. All in all, the Nexus One is not on my top list of phones I want. I’m getting myself an HTC EVO 4G, when it releases in the US “this summer”, according to Sprint. Isn’t this the best looking phone, by far, and ever? Press release after the “read more” for you people who are wide-eyed, like myself.

Nintendo 3DS announced, brings 3D glasses-free 3D gaming

Big news in the gaming industry today! Nintendo (the Japanese Giant) has announced that in the next fiscal year (which begins next month in Japan and ends March 2011) they will launch a successor to the Nintendo DS/DSi which includes updated hardware. One of the main new features is 3D gaming, sans those petty glasses.

In the meantime, what we do know besides the target release date is that there’s no pics of it/no price/no specs, but we do know that 3DS is that name of the device and it will be backwards compatible with DS/DSi games (meaning it will contain two cameras, one front-facing, one back) and will surely hit Japan first.

And as a reminder, the DSi XL is coming to the States on March 28th. Seems pretty pointless now, eh?

AT&T to release an Android phone by Dell called ‘Aero’ (UPDATE: new pics!)

Dell Aero. That would be the re-branding of the Mini i3 that Dell is currently selling in China. Yes, a Dell phone. As much as the thought seems interesting, yet strange, it’s Dell’s bid on an Android smartphone running on a heavily-overhauled custom UI (just look at it!). Right now here’s what AT&T has to say about it:

AT&T also will soon unveil an Android-based smartphone the Dell Aero. This will be Dell’s first smartphone available in the U.S., and will feature a new, beautiful custom user interface developed by Dell and AT&T. To learn more about the Dell Aero, visit www.att.com/aero.

The specs so far: a 3.5-inch nHD touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, GPS, 3G, Flash Lite in the browser, access to 20,00 AT&T mobile hotspots, the claim that it’s the “lightest Android phone”, and social integration much like MOTOBLUR. The site link is live as about now, but with CTIA peeking over the Windows, and this post as a developing story, we’ll know more faster before you can say “Dell Aero” yourself.

UPDATE: We just scored ourselves a few shots of the Aero in the gallery below. Click to embiggen!
