Explained: Apple’s iPad Is Officially Official! Starting at $499
by Stefan Etienne on 27. Jan, 2010 2:54PM in Apple, Breaking, Featured, Tablets
Yes, it’s the Apple iPad. A tablet, which looks like a big iPod Touch. Are you surprised? It’s a “very thin” device at 0.5-inches, as according to Steve Jobs, runs iPhone OS, and you can now add desktop backgrounds to your homescreen. Multimedia is one of the main features of the iPad; watching movies, the full iTunes Store, access to YouTube, in HD, an awesome Email experience, improved Calendar, iPhoto, Maps, an e-reading app called iBooks, iWork for the iPad which has a new UI, and a giant on-screen QWERTY keyboard. The Apple iPad’s screen size is 9.7-inches, and has the same home button a la iPod Touch or iPhone. As for old iPhone apps, it can run them out-of-the box, because you can now make an app go fullscreen. Read on to see what makes the iPad awesome and its press release.
Is THIS the Apple Tablet? Probably.

If you really can’t wait until 1PM Eastern Time/ 10 AM Pacific, then a leak made to Engadget might just fulfill your craving before the actual press images come out. Above is a 9 to 10-inch device (you can tell from the way it looks) that as of right now has its name in complete darkness, but we know Apple employees call it by the name K48, a name that appeared in rumors a couple of months ago. According to the tipster, it will run for $1000 in March, and $800 on Verizon. The backing of the device will be like a Macbook, and will look like an iPhone. There’s just a couple of hours to go before the event, where I’ll be updating a new post with any info that I get. In the meantime for your inspection there’s a shot of this thing being compared to an iPhone and a gallery too, so check it out. [Via Engadget]
Poll: So what will the Apple Tablet be called?
by Stefan Etienne on 26. Jan, 2010 9:39PM in Apple, Rumors, Tablets

Soooo. What will the Apple Tablet be called? The term iSlate is technically registered under Apple, the name iPad was also thrown around, and featured in a Borders survey, iTablet is possible, but belongs to someone else. So, it’s your call: What will the Apple Tablet be called?
McGraw-Hill Confirms the Apple Tablet On CNBC, And it Will Run The iPhone OS
by Stefan Etienne on 26. Jan, 2010 6:13PM in Apple, Breaking, Tablets

All buzzers, lights, and alarm clocks have gone off! Terry McGraw, CEO of McGraw-Hill (you know what company that is for sure) says that tomorrow’s Apple announcement is about the Apple Tablet, and that it does run the iPhone OS, and since 95% of McGraw-Hill books are in e-reader format, the Apple Tablet will be” fantastic”. The anchor that was on air dropped a softball question which in fact did get answered. The Apple Tablet magic beings at the 2:49 mark in the CNBC video after the break, and a transcript from Terry is also included. [Via MacRumors]
Breaking: Apple reports record earnings for Q1 2010
by Stefan Etienne on 25. Jan, 2010 5:57PM in Apple, Breaking

It’s breaking news! Apple has posted its record earnings for the first quarter of 2010, which for Apple ended on December 26th, 2009. The results are very grand, and the figures are nothing short of that. What these new sales figures also do is that now, Apple is officially a 50+ billion-a-year company. Here the numbers speak for themselves, in a big way:
- Revenue of $15.68 billion ($11.88 billion in Q1 2009)
- 58% of revenue derived from international sales
- Net quarterly profit of $3.38 billion or $3.67 per diluted share ($2.26 billion, or $2.50 per diluted share in Q1 2009)
- Gross margin of 40.9 percent (37.9 % in Q1 2009)
- $5.8 billion generated in cold hard cash
This translates into 3.36 million Macs and 8.7 million iPhones sold, which represents a 33% unit increase for Macintosh sales and 100% unit growth for the iPhone when compared to Q1 2009. The only minor hiccup here is iPod sales; Apple sold 21 million iPods which is 8% less than Q1 2009. Besides amazing sales figures, and Jobs’ alleged statement of the Apple Tablet: “This will be the most important thing I’ve ever done”, he also said, and officially (mind you), “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about.”
I think I smell Apple Tablet. Full PR after the break.
