Motorola DEFY Hands-On And Unboxing (video!)

A short day after release the Motorola DEFY is ready to be put through some intense and very serious testing here from LaptopMemo. Main testing may or may not include plane flights, swimming in 6 feet deep water, dropping on tables, heavy app downloading, Angry Birds, multitasking, and plenty of phone calls and social networking. And to start off, an unboxing. So technically, we are going to torture (but not break, hopefully) Motorola’s DEFY test unit. There’s a video unboxing after the “more” link and a gallery below! Update: Sorry about that! Video is ready to go.

Samsung Fascinate Review: Great Hardware, But With A Wrong Carrier Decision

Let’s face it. The Android universe is a little topsy-turvy. There’s a majority of Android phones running 1.6, 2.1 and 2.2, there’s Sense UI, MOTOBLUR, and TouchWiz 3.0 covering up the default experience, and now Verizon removing the Google search option in the Samsung Fascinate. Not to go off to a negative start, but that’s the way things are right now in Android. And yet, the most successful Android phones, in fact use these UI layers, which comes to show: there are plenty of great sugar-frosted Android devices out there.

The Samsung Fascinate, a Galaxy S phone, might be one of them.

Sony Ericsson’s UK Twitter Account Mentions Android 2.1 Coming To XPERIA X10 At End-Of-Month

Good news! The Sony Ericsson UK Twitter account today released a short @ reply, saying that Androdi 2.1 is pegged for a release on the Xperia X10 later this month. With a review unit inbound to the LaptopMemo office as we speak, I’d say it’s a pretty good thing.

One problem: is Sony Ericsson talking about the UK Xperia X10, or the AT&T one?

Questions, questions, questions. It’s more like superb annoyance.

Samsung Captivate now headed out of AT&T warehouses, into your pocket

So the Samsung Captivate, a 4-inch Super AMOLED, 1Ghz Hummingbird, Android 2.1 with Touchwiz 3.0, and 5 megapixel HD shootin’ camera is a beast by far. While I can’t recommended it (due to not reviewing it, yet), I can say it’s impressive. Starting at $199 on a 2-year death contract with AT&T, the first high-end Android  without sideloading of apps or Google Navigation (you get AT&T’s) is here (now it just sounds lame) at the source link, specifically.

Verizon DROID X is now on sale at Verizon’s site and stores

So if you’re craving a 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch multitouch WVGA screen, 8 megapixel camera with dual flash and 720p HD video recording (with a camera mic), 16GB of microSD storage with 8GB of internal, and finally a slick looking version of MOTOBLUR with Android 2.1 (FroYo coming quickly), then you’re in for a great surprise.

For the cost of 2 Benjamins and 2-year contract with Verizon Wireless. Then you’re done. Or you can wait in line like a maniac!

Hands-On: Samsung Intercept with Sprint (yay, video!)

The Samsung Intercept, aka Moment2, just strolled by (in the form of a BBQ-eating family attendee). To cut the story short, the lighting conditions and amount of space available was epically abysmal, on top of the Panasonic LUMIX G10′s poor ISO performance. Forgive me for the shots, but you can take a short look at the Intercept by watching the video after the cut.

Hands-On With The Samsung Intercept

The handset itself is plasticky, with a 3.2 megapixel camera with poor ISO performance, but great daylight shots. Coupled with Sprint 3G, Android 2.1 with a light version of Touchwiz 3.0 (FroYo comes this summer), and a 3.2-inch 800 x 480 WVGA resolution AMOLED display, which for some reason didn’t quite impress me much like other AMOLED Android offerings. The same also goes for the entire phone, though the keyboard can beat the Ally’s and Droid’s by a mile. Video after the break!

Motorola WX445 is Verizon’s answer to the mediocre Android phone

With all of those nice smartphone (ahem, superphones) out there, would you really buy something that’s sub-par (read: sucks)? In Engadget’s case, the source mentioned that it’s “cheaper looking” than a Palm Pre Plus, and is just “not a very impressive phone.” It has a small 2.5 to 3 inch screen, a terribly small 1170mAh battery, and lastly a flash-less camera with Android 2.1 and MOTOBLUR (possibly the DROID X’s version).

Pass?
