Dolphin Browser HD debuts with new features, urges you to drop your browser

In the ongoing war of Android web browsers, and while iPhone owners are leaping for joy just because Opera Mini recently got approved, the idea of Android being “open” has had no better example of that freedom than the new web browsers being pushed out for it. For example, the stock Android browser is fast, but Opera Mini is faster, with the cost of actual rendering. Skyfire supports Flash, and has speed, but is missing proper multitouch gestures. Firefox (or Fennec) will debut with a nearly full browsing experience, but Dolphin Browser HD on the other hand combines all of the above, with awesome rendering and speed (but works only on Android 2.0+ devices). With YouTube (full site) support and multitouch. And extensions. And it’s free. Click the “read more” for YouTube video, after the break, per usual.

Motorola: DROID Is Getting Android 2.1 “this week”

While we knew the Droid would be getting Android 2.1 in all of its multitouch glory, we didn’t know when. Well, now Motorola is claiming on its Facebook page that the 2.1 OTA update “will start to roll out this week”. Meaning that now, both of the permier Android devices — Motorola’s Droid and Google’s Nexus One — will have full multitouch capabilities, becoming even more a threat to the iPhone, and both will become even more awesome as well. Motorola Droid gets multitouch support — in Google Maps

Feeling left out after Nexus One owners now have multitouch? Now the Droid at least has a multitouch support feature somewhere now. You can pinch-and-zoom your way through Google Maps if you download the update in the market right now. Afterwards, the Europeans are the only ones who have their Milestones with full multitouch right now, but at least this is something. But now we know something for sure with Google: when it rains, it pours.

Poll: Are You Excited for Today’s Nexus One Launch?

Are you excited? The Android press event starts at 10AM PST, 1PM EST. CNN will be broadcasting it live (they were, but just a couple of minutes ago now it’s gone. Weird.) over the Internet, and of course I’ll post the news as it comes in on the site. So sound off in the poll!

Nexus One Support Page Pops Up, Then Goes Away

Above is a brief glimpse of the Google Nexus One support page. Luckily, while Tim Stevens at Engadget took this screen, he (or they) were able to click around, read the Terms of Service, and “watch a few videos”. Of course Google has now quickly closed the page again, but with the supposed launch coming tomorrow, you can be sure we’ll know more as it comes in.

Sprint Hero gets an update straight from Sprint

sprint-hero-front

Listen up folks. The Sprint Hero has a new update from Sprint;  no, it doesn’t add Android 2.0, although HTC says the Sense UI is getting ready for it;  it’s a bug-cleansing fix. Coming at around 3748377 bytes, firmware 1.56.651.2 fixes SMS issues that drained the battery and so forth. I haven’t noticed any changes in our Sprint Hero, but let’s leave that for the comments. But,  have you noticed anything new?

HTC Droid Eris gets unboxed: “feels much better” than Hero, BGR says

htc-droid-eris-unboxed-11-04-09

BGR has had another one of its “connects” to get an unboxing of the DROID Eris. Which is really a thinner and lighter Sprint Hero, but uses Android an older version of Andriod,  not 2.0 like we all thought it would. Comes out November 6th, same day as the Motorola DROID. Did I mention that the color of the insides look just like the ones here at LM? Hit the link for the unboxing.
