Apple Tablet January 27th Event: “Come See Our Latest Creation”

The rumors, leaking, and guesses are true. Apple is sending out invites to “Come See Our Latest Creation” on January 27th. The event is taking place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco, starting at 10AM PST. Stay Tuned!

UPDATE: With all of those colorful splashes of color, you might expect that Apple’s “latest creation” has to do with creating things. And what better thing to create with than a tablet? It all seems so obvious, at least that would have to be one of the primary functions. Oh, and if you’re interested in reading previous Apple Tablet coverage, hit the new banner I just put up.

An impressive entry from ASUS into the e-reader market, the DR-570 boasts a 6-inch OLED screen and a claimed 122 hours of juice. No extra details except it’s coming out at the “end of the year”. From the looks of it though, it won’t be cheap, contrary to ASUS’s usual pricing schemes. [Via Times Online, Engadget]

Sprint getting 4G Mobile Hotspot from Sierra Wireless.

Well, 4G is coming fast for Sprint isn’t it? From the training shot above, Sierra Wireless (who makes most of Sprint’s 3G cards) will be making a 3G/4G wireless hotspot that can fit in your pocket, much like the Mi-Fi from Verizon Wireless. While there isn’t any release date or pricing, it’s expected to launch in February. It will be able to support 5 users via Wi-Fi with an increased range of 100 feet. A nice addition is the SD card, which would allow all users connect to the mobile hotspot to access the data on the card, obviously without having to connect it to each person’s respective device.

According to Oppenheimer analyst Yair Reiner, Apple is almost ready to give its Chinese manufacturing partners the green light needed to begin production of the Apple Tablet in February, then ship it in March. The rumored 10.1″ Multi-Touch capacitive tablet would be well stocked, and according to Reiner, it would sell 1.5 million units in the first quarter, at an average of $1000 a piece. We’ll see if this is real, in the meantime take this with a grain of salt. [Via BGR]

Nokia shows off new and improved Symbian 2010 OS

nokia-2010-symbian-600

As you may have heard, Nokia is going to release a new Symbian UI in 2010. But no, somehow they couldn’t wait to show off the screens, which is fine with me, and is why the concept shots are showing up here.

Nokia’s head in devices, Kai Öistämö, says that they plan to see Symbian OS as an interface, and not the problem. And they say they will:

“Use a new optimized graphic architecture with a focus on graphics and responsiveness, showcased beautifully on a large capacitive screen. Later in the year, a completely new visual architecture re-working of the UI will drastically reduce the complexity throughout and bring fresh appeal. We will execute here.”

Not a bad gameplan at all Mister Kai. Also, everything in Symbian 2010 is easier to use and do. Creating an email account takes 2 steps, not four, and it takes 2 taps to get your video and music, not 8. The web browser will also be more efficient.
