iPad 3 to be announced in early March, says All Things D

Once again, renowned tech site All Things D is making a very bold prediction seemingly backed by insider sources: the iPad 3 will be announced by Apple at a press event in early March (specifically in the first week, then launched in the 2nd or 3rd week), which is not too far away. It would have a faster processor, Retina display, and nearly the same design as the iPad 2. We shall see. Via: All Things D

Razer Fiona Gaming Tablet Concept is spectacular, will cost around $1000

This is the Razer Fiona Windows 8 gaming tablet. It’s a concept with probably a year left for release, but it still has actual specs to back it up: a Core i7 processor and Windows 8, is designed to play “most popular PC games of today,” and THX audio. There are analog sticks, shoulder buttons, and numerous gamepad-related buttons on each side, and presumably there’s also a touchscreen. Razer does plan on releasing it, for around $1000 during Q4 of 2012. Via: Razer

Acer Iconia Tab A200 comes out on the 15th for $330

It’s very appealing considering that it’s an Acer product. This particular Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet will get access to an Ice Cream Sandwich update slated for mid-February. The A200 features NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor with a 1280 x 800-pixel display and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Additionally, the tablet features a microSD slot, 1GB RAM, a full sized USB 2.0 port and eight hours of battery life, with the attractive feature being the price tag: the 8GB model will be available for $329 and the 16GB model for $349. Android 4.0 Coming To Transformer Prime On The 12th And Unlocked Bootloader

This has to be in the list of all time great Android software upgrades for any particular Android device. The Android-powered ASUS Transformer Prime will see a massive boost to its feature set, with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich being added to the system on the 12th of this month, then an unlocked bootloader download will also follow. Interestingly though, ASUS explains that the bootloader was in place to enable Google video rentals, and that users will have voided their warranty and be unable to rent videos from the service if they use the bootloader unlocker — a sure bummer, no doubt. However, the good news outweighs the bad, and users can expect the update to be rolled out soon.

Sony Tablet S now costs a $100 less

Perhaps as part of a New Year strategy, Sony has made the Sony Tablet S, their 9.4-inch Honeycomb tablet $100 less, making it $400 for a 16GB model and $499 for a 32GB model. So they’re lowering prices to try and make demand — a practice seen with Samsung, Toshiba, and even ASUS tablets. Via: Sony

RIM Just Lost $1.7 Million Worth of PlayBooks

So, if the PlayBook crisis can’t get any worse for RIM, and that the Playbook is also marked-down several hundred dollars, now some thieves have stolen $1.7 million worth of them, in Indiana. The total amount of units stolen is purportedly 5,000. Yikes. The very sad part is that even the thieves will have a hard time selling a tablet no one wants. At least it’s a few extra tablets RIM doesn’t have to worry about. Via: The Verge

Android 3.2 released for Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi owners

Ready for Android 3.2 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1? Besides the fact that I am consistently pestering you, the reader, with questions if you’re ready for the new bit of technology that comes out, I find it completely necessary to do so, because it really is a valid question. Now, onward with the news.

The Android 3.2 Honeycomb update that was pulled for Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi owners after many initial bugs at launch has been released, complete with fixes. You should be able to get the update right about now, and if you don’t, wait a few hours or days, as that is how long it usually takes for over-the-air updates to roll out fully to all users.

Earlier this morning, Samsung began releasing an over the air software update allowing Galaxy 10.1 users to upgrade to Android 3.2 while also resolving a Wi-Fi connectivity issues some Galaxy 10.1 users experienced following a previous software update. For Galaxy 10.1 users who experience Wi-Fi connectivity issues and are unable to reconnect, the new software update may be downloaded and installed via Samsung’s Kies desktop app.

By the way, I’ve gone ahead and installed it and can happily report that it is fully functional and I can’t seem to find any bugs to report, thus far.
