More Blackberry Slider pics? You bet!

By Stefan Etienne Filed under: Blackberry, Handsets, Leaks, Rumors   at: 10:37 am Leave a Comment »

Today, we’ve found new Blackberry Slider pics. Last time when the Slider was compared to an 8900 we didn’t get to really see who was fatter/thinner, but it seems like according to the profile shots, the Slider sucker is thicker than the 8900. On another note, we definitely know it’s not the Storm3. Throw that out. What we do know is that rumors have been flying around stating that it looks exactly like a Bold 9700, and a UAProf found on RIM’s website lists that a certain 9700a has a portrait HVGA+ display (opposed to the 9700’s landscape HVGA+ display). While this may all seems plausible, we’re dealing with prototypes here. So we’ll have to wait like one of my old friends (now an enemy) and twiddle our thumbs for a bit longer. Shot of the new F-S1 battery after the break.

As much as this is off the tip of the hat, so to speak, this might just be the real deal here folks. A recent leak is that the HTC Desire, the Sense UI counterpart of the Nexus One, is making its way to T-Mobile instead of AT&T, or in extraordinary cases, both. A ninja that seems pretty accurate says that after speaking to three T-Mobile retail store managers one of the employees responded:

“My manager said that [he/she] trained on a phone but was sworn to secrecy. It’s probably the Desire…[he/she] said it was awesome and it was Android.”

The second manager responded that the handset he/she was training with was not the CLIQ XT, but was “all touchscreen” and “large”. Pretty much fits the bill of the Desire right? Of course, this is just a margarita drizzled with salt, so don’t come banging on our door if it’s not real; we’re posting this because we love you guys.

Good news for you who forgot all about the Motorola Opus One last year. The good news is that it’s officially called the i1, has MOTOBLUR, and the gigantic list of specs below, just in time for the upcoming CTIA. Now you remember this little guy, right?

  • 3.1″ hVGA 320×480 capacitive touchscreen display
  • 3 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity sensor
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
  • Bluetooth
  • microSD card slot
  • 2.5mm headset jack
  • Home, Menu, Back, Speaker buttons are capacitive buttons with haptic feedback
  • iDEN PTT & PTX
  • Android LBS which is integrated into the iDEN GPS engine
  • “Enterprise email”
  • Plastic-molded housing with some rubberized texture finishes
  • 58mm in width, 118mm in length
  • 100g weight
  • 512MB Flash / 256MB of RAM
  • 64k and 128k iDEN SIM card support
  • A-GPS
  • Motorola dual-mic technology noise-canceling for noisy environments
  • Flash Lite v3.1.x
  • Some of the preloaded apps include: corporate email client with ActiveSync support, MOTONAV navigation app, barcode scanner, and document viewer.

What actually makes news here is that it’s iDEN powered, meaning that you can naturally expect it on Sprint and Boost Mobile. Telus is reportedly getting it in Q3.

One word of caution: please take this well-written report with a grain of salt. On to the story: BGR is claiming (you know, a rumor) that Verizon has begun internal training with its employees on the EV-DO variant of the Nexus One — the Verizon version. While internally a release date has not been put up yet, it’s nice to see Verizon has officially started, meaning that we’re getting closer to that release date. Although the only proof of this going on is a “couple of emails that were bounced around”. Hopefully I think I (and you too!) can believe this.

See that thing up there? Yeah, that’s what you would call one of the two Microsoft Pink phones built by Sharp, called the Pure (above) and the Turtle (seen after the break). Both phones look like they’re headed to Verizon on April 20th, and are targeted at teens (like myself, I think) and 20-year-olds. Now I wonder which teen or young person in their twenties would want such a phone, but anyway they both seem to be feature phones, or in other words: cheap smartphones. Now there’s no word on what OS they’re running, but you can be sure it’s not Windows Phone 7, Zune HD UI, or the like. The sad looking Turtle is slowly waiting for you to crawl to it after the break.

Anybody remember Project Pink? Before Windows Phone 7 Series stole its fire, and when Microsoft was planning a social phone targeted at “teens”? Yeah, well the Project Pick “Turtle” (because it looks like one and therefore is ugly) is headed to Verizon according to Giz. It will not run Windows Phone, but might instead use its own OS. As for apps, there’s complete confirmation that it couldn’t possibly use Windows Phone 7 Series apps, and that leaves us all with a piqued expression. According to John Hermann:

It’s suggested that the platform has apps of some sort. For a phone like this to share apps with Windows Phone 7 is pretty much impossible, so this one’s a big question mark. Is it another SDK? Or closed app development like we’ve seen on the Zune HD?

Hopefully all of this will come down soon. Hopefully.

Sony VAIO M leaked…..an entry-level netbook

By Stefan Etienne Filed under: Netbooks, Rumors, Sony   at: 9:48 am Leave a Comment »

While the Sony VAIO W was deemed to expensive to be a netbook for its size, the recently-leaked Sony VAIO M is purportedly set to replace the W. Moving straight onto specs there’s a 1024 x 600 10.1-inch screen, 1.66GHz Atom N450 CPU, Bluetooth on the basic model, 250GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, Windows 7 Starter, b/g/n Wi-Fi, and all in a package that weighs only 2.86 pounds. It’s expected to sell below $500 Benjamins which would turn it into hotcakes, although there’s no official release date (or price for that matter). One more shot after the break for your fancy.

More Blackberry Slider Pics Leak Out

By Stefan Etienne Filed under: Blackberry, Handsets, Rumors   at: 9:33 pm 1 Comment »

Remember the Blackberry Slider from not too long ago? In the nick of time BBLeaks has gotten some higher-resolution photos, so we can see the “Slider” on the right in better detail. The size difference between itself and a Curve 8900 isn’t that much. So far as it stands, this slider is an early hardware unit, and surely not the final version. Close-up shot after the jump.

A Mac Mini with HDMI. Not a bad thought altogether actually. AppleInsider is claiming that there is currently internal testing of a Mac mini with HDMI due for a release later this year. One of the prototypes is said to have NVIDIA’s MCP89 chipset, meaning that it would have to use a Core 2 Duo processor, instead of the newer Core i3, Core i5, and Core i5 Intel CPUs.  The release date is rumored for a launch ”this year”. You know what that means: wait.

Huzzah! While there’s no real confirmation that your old and rusty T-Mobile G1 will make the cut to Android 2.1, there’s lots of hope it will. According to AndroidandMe, all I repeat all, US Android phones would get version 2.1. Although some of the updated phones would be much like the Droid’s upcoming update — snazzy stuff like the live wallpapers and 3D app menu won’t make the cut, but you’ll still get all the awesome widgets and baseline features of Eclair. And to cut back on install failures, one of the rumored forms of upgrading your phone would be via a PC, which would ensure a safe and complete install.

Because this would be done on such a large scale, a sacrifice must be made: some phones will require an entire wipe. All of it. Your phone would be re-born again and you’d have to teach it all of your tricks (and stuff all of your junk) back into it. You’d have the latest and greatest version of Android though. While there’s no real confirmation on this, Google has admitted that Android versions are in a thousand pieces right now. Expect the first 2 phones to get 2.1 will be the G1 (if it can handle it) and the myTouch 3G. Confirmation and the like should appear in the coming weeks.
