Nintendo: The Wii U Will Launch Worldwide By The End Of 2012

Just as the new year begins, Nintendo is making plans for the very end of it. The Wii U will launch in the US, Japan, Europe, and Australia at the end of 2012 according to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. The Wii U is Nintendo’s next-generation gaming console, which now (finally!) offers HD graphics and a controller that doubles as a secondary and primary screen for the system when your TV set is in use. Flame Red Nintendo 3DS Landing September 9th For $169.99

So even though it was used in promos ad looks pretty good, the flame red Nintendo 3DS was never launched at the same time that the black and blue versions were. That will all change September 9th, when it goes on sale for $169, the new price for a Nintendo 3DS portable console. “With major upcoming releases in the Star Fox, Pokémon and Mario series, in addition to downloadable offerings from Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Video and Netflix, the system offers new and fun experiences to owners on a daily basis,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said. Nintendo still seems rather optimistic about the 3DS, and has sold 830,000 3DS units in the U.S. since its launch on March 27th. Press release after the jump.

Nintendo 3DS Sells 400,000 Units — In Japan, Mind You

Of course. Everything Japanese sells in Japan! Some reports had it at 2,000 people in line for the new 3D system, priced in Japan at ¥25,000 and is $249 for the U.S. when it launches March 27th. And as per all DS series systems, the 3DS is backwards-compatible with all DS and DSi games; a nice touch.

Oh Fudge: North American Nintendo 3DS Launch Titles Exclude Zelda 3D

Grumble. Nintendo was thoughtful enough to mention that launch titles for the 3DS would come at the “initial launch window”, but not that Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D wouldn’t be a launch title, neither will Mario Kart (who plays that?!), Star Fox, or Kid Icarus. I was really looking forward to Zelda in 3D. All those franchises will make their way to the 3DS later this year. And here’s the launch titles, in one big blockquote. Via: Kotaku

Nintendo launch titles:

  • Pilotwings Resort
  • Steel Diver
  • Nintendogs + Cats

Third-Party launch titles:

  • Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition
  • The Sims 3
  • Madden NFL Football
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D
  • Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
  • Ridge Racer 3D
  • Super Monkey Ball 3D
  • Bust-A-Move Universe
  • Samurai Warriors: Chronicles
  • Asphalt 3D
  • Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D
  • Rayman 3D
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Shadow Wars

Nintendo 3DS Disappointment, 1st Edition: No Online Game Store At Launch

An essential feature of the Nintendo 3DS will not come at launch, says Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata at a recent investor conference. The feature will come as an OTA update  – in May. And interestingly enough, said feature that will be missing is none other than the digital game store.

A web-connected next-gen 3D gaming device with no built-in game store. Disappointment, indeed.

Keep in mind, the 3DS launches on March 27th for $249. That’s a long ways away for two essential features on an already threated (in some ways) device due to the NGP/PSP2 launching at the end of the year. Via: Electronista
