The Motorola XOOM Family Edition tablet runs Android 32 Honeycomb, has a 10.1-inch screen, and a 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording. What makes it so different from the original Xoom is that one, it contains $40 worth of apps, including Kid Zone, Asphalt 6, Sim City Deluxe, Netflix, and Quickoffice Pro HD. Secondly, it has the low price tag of $379 for the one and only 16GB storage model, and otherwise looks a lot like the first XOOM. The press release from Motorola published on Friday is seen after the break.

This May Be What The Xoom 2 Looks Like
by Stefan Etienne on 24. Sep, 2011 9:16AM in Android, Mobile, Motorola, Rumors, Tablets

Curious? We have a right to be so. The Motorola Xoom 2 may be staring out at you through your computer screen right now. Word has it that it contains an HDMI port, SIM card lot, 10.1-inch screen, micro-USB port, and an HD rear-facing camera. But unfortunately through the leaks made at Droid-Life, there isn’t a single statement of internal specifications (read: processors, RAM, etc.). Oh, well. Till sometimes later I suppose.

Say Hello To The Motorola DEFY+: A Tougher Smartphone
by Stefan Etienne on 15. Aug, 2011 11:27AM in Android, Mobile, Motorola

Remember what happened to the Defy here at LaptopMemo? Let’s not, honestly. Here comes the tougher DEFY+, complete with Android 2.3 Gingerbread (with a layer of MOTOBLUR), a single-core 1GHz TI OMAP 3620 processor, 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, and a 1,700mAh battery. Slated for a release in Q3 of 2011 (read: this autumn), while the rest of the specs remain true to the original Defy. Along with all of that, no carrier details were given, which we always find somehow strange. Press release after the jump.

Google To Acquire Motorola Mobility For $12.5 Billion
by Stefan Etienne on 15. Aug, 2011 10:16AM in Breaking, Google, Mobile, Motorola

What?
Yes, this is totally real. Google has put down $12.5 billion to buy good old Motorola Mobility, meaning that they own the Motorola division responsible for the Xoom tablet, the Droid lines of smartphones, and more. This also means that hey have a integrated hardware section to producing Android devices like the Nexus One and the Nexus S. The deal, for $40.00 per share in cash and $12.5 billion cash and is set to be closed in late 2011 or early 2012. Full press release after the break. Currently I am listening to the live press call, which is more of a recap of the deal than anything else. Out of all of this, where will MotoBlur fit in a world of stock Android phones built by the new Motorola/Google alliance? And most importantly, how will the patent battles change?

Well, according to this new page just put up by Verizon, it’s coming out pretty soon, so they want your email addy to let you know.

Motorola ATRIX 4G Now Has Gingerbread And 1080p HD Playback
by Stefan Etienne on 23. Jul, 2011 11:49AM in Android, Mobile, Motorola
Two greats things added to the 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 Motorola Atrix 4G (really HSPA+) on AT&T. One, that Android 2.3.4 with the Motorola UI is available for install, however as a manual download and install, rather than an over-the-air-update (OTA). Second is that 1080p HD video playback is now enabled, so your YouTube vids just got better without any hardware changes. Other improvements pertain to the MotoBlur UI, including faster Webtop browsing. You can also allow non-Market apps to get installed on the Atrix 4G, like Amazon App Store.
