Colorware coats the Xbox 360 S anyway you like it

If you’re getting bored of your Xbox 360 S already, then you might want to contact Colorware. I can definitely say they’re reliable, and will charge you a motherload as well. For any color or texture, you can fork over $500 and they’ll send you a new 360 S system in the colors of your choosing. Or, you can ship your unit in for $175, and they send it back to you in agonizing 3 weeks. Take your pick, gamers.

Android phone’s battery life could be doubled by using AMOLED hack

How far would you go to extend the battery life on your Android phone that uses an AMOLED screen?

Would you order the pixels to display certain colors as seen above to save energy? Android engineer Jeff Sharkey took 5 Nexus Ones (Nexi?) and only powered each color channel seen in an AMOLED screen (red, green, and blue). Apparently, Jeff found out with an industrial-level power meter that by only using red pixels, which could serve as a night-vision mode, used the least power.

Jeff’s quote:

“Filtering to show only red pixels only requires 35% of the original baseline OLED panel current, on average. Adding back the baseline current, the best case overall is about 42% of the original system current, effectively doubling the battery life. Also, showing only red pixels doubles as an awesome night vision mode, perfect for astronomy.”

To get your night-vision fix on your Android, check out his blog, then expect that the modder and hacker communities (xda-developers comes to mind) will come up with a solid hack that can do this easily.

Nexus One tuned to 720p video recording in new hack

Non-HD video recording seemed a bit annoying when I was reviewing it, as well as when I blogged about it. But guess what, maggots? The xda-developers community, has brought 720p HD video recording to the Nexus One’s 5 megapixel camera. You’ll need the Cyanogen’s CM5.0.8test3 mod for it to work. And it does not support Android 2.2 FroYo. That sucks. But at least you could hit the “via” link and see the results, as well as the instructions.

EVO 4G root released into the wild

Is that it? Yeah, that is it! The EVO 4G, the best spec’d phone on planet Earth, has gotten its rooting together and moving. Clicking on the source link will give you all the files, instructions, and chatty talk from the super smart modders at xda-developers.

And for those of you who don’t know what a “root” is, it’s getting fully unrestricted, un-tampered with, full control of your handset. And that means every bit of it. Technically, it’s like jailbreaking your iPad, only cooler. I think.

Android 2.2 Ported To The EVO 4G, Sense UI Jumps Off (Video)

There you have it folks. What did we all tell you (read: me and including the other fine tech bloggers who are my “buds”)? Having ported Anroid 2.2 “FroYo” to the EVO 4G, Sense UI gets the kicking off the stage, while the clean and clear “Google Experience” greets you. XDA user Richard Ross did the ultimate, and the rest is pretty much history. Meanwhile, The Gadgets are working on a “how-to” guide on getting FroYo ported.

Video: HTC Evo 4G Rooted Before It’s Even Released To The Public

While most Google I/O attendees are playing with their free Evo 4G night and day, some dudes (a trio of hackers actually), fueled by probably pizza, FroYo (you know, frozen yogurt), and some beer have rooted the Evo 4G to its knees. They’re very quiet when it comes to a release date of the hack, since Sprint could patch it by release, but it’s good to know that these dudes will be looking out for any trouble, and they’ll hack it.
