Ah, Chrome OS. So half-baked you could throw up on the chrome (get it?). In my time using the Cr-48 constantly, I’ve found some secrets of Chrome OS running on the Cr-48 through different, tedious means. First off, there’s a proper media player and improved file browser than the ones seen by default, an on-screen keyboard of sorts that could spark tablet rumors (but I wouldn’t go that far) and improvements to Flash, so that Hulu and YouTube videos will run like butter, even though there won’t be 720p HD (yet). Jump on the “more” link for all my findings.

With the Chrome Web Store just launching with 500 apps plus all the extensions from Chrome, there isn’t much choice when it comes to awesomeness, is there? That would be just wrong, no? Well, if you head on past the break, you’ll find LaptopMemo’s Favorite Chrome Web Apps, since these are the only real apps worth mentioning, anyways.

While I’m still composing the lists of gadgets that will be posted here on LaptopMemo for Christmas (all the way till Christmas Eve), I’ve decided to make a list of my all-time favorite gadgets of this year, that I’ve followed day-by-day, used and tested, and would want for Christmas myself. Despite this list coming from a 14-year-old with a knack for tech writing and some contacts in the tech industry, this is as serious as any gadget personal list can get, and it’ll be updated as I’m testing new gadgets that I’m receiving every week here to test. Onwards to the list!

Tablets this year are a major craze, no matter what analyst might claim. Turns out, while the iPad is the #1 bet on what people think of as a tablet this year, there are few very worthy competitors to the iPad, and because of that, the second one is listed after the jump. And the iPad is there, too.

Last year they were called smartphones, I think I’ll call them superphones, even if the phrase will go down in blasphemy, it’s pretty cool. But to save you from the confusion, I’ve titled this guide “smartphones”, so let’s continue. The phones seen below on all four major carriers in the United States are what I think were the best of this year, and deserve to be presents for the holidays. Let’s continue, shall we?

iPhone OS 4.0 has made its debut today with Steve Jobs as your presenter at the Apple Headquarters. Main new features of the new OS are — wait for it — multitasking, global Mail inbox, iAd, Enterprise features, and the GameCenter, all coming to iPhone owners this summer (more on that after the jump), while iPad owners should expect it this fall. Let’s go over what was announced in a pretty well-ordered list:
