The Playstation Arc as some of you might have known it, is officially the Playstation Move and has been debuted at GDC 2010. Sony’s calling it “the next generation of motion gaming” because of its extreme amount of control and the ability to be precise, latency is about on par with the Dualshock 3. It uses the Playstation Eye to track the Move, and additionally Sony says that this precision will not only allow casual gamers to engage themselves with their games, but creates a “new experiences for core gamers”. There will also be a “subcontroller” which has an analog stick, so you can completely play your way through shooters and SOCOM 4 which will support it. (Yes, it’s a wireless Wii Nunchuck. I get it, okay?)

You’ll be able to move with the Move (sorry with the pun) in three ways: fork over the cash as a standalone, a bundle with a PS3, or a starter kit that’s “under $100″ and includes the Move, Playstation Eye, and a game. That’s all the pricing that’s known for now, but it’s pretty good so far. The release will be Fall 2010.

It only takes a while. Give or take 3 months, and your iPhone looks like it came from a war. It’s scratched, dented, dull, and lost its charm. You’re hopeless, and are cursing Apple for not letting your iPhone stay good looking enough. You begin envying the Nexus One owner who will never have to face such an issue. Until MacRumors forum member Shenaniganz08 comes to save the world your iPhone! With this simple and easy step-by-step guide, your iPhone will look like it just came out of its box. You’ll need:

• Sandpaper 320(or 500),800,1000,1500,2000,2500,3000 grit
• 3M Rubbing compound
• Machine Polisher ( Power Drill or small buffer)
• Microfibers
• Sticky tack and or tape

Know what’s amazing? Half of the junk you’ll need to pull this off — those microfibers, the polishing disc and rubbing compound – is included in a $15 3M headlight restoration kit. Afterwards any household drill that works can be used for the buffing. The results from the picture above are truly stunning, so why don’t you make your iPhone feel happy again?

Then only in a few months time you’ll find the new iPhone 4G. This world….

HTC is hiring “patent counsel”

By Stefan Etienne Filed under: Did You Know?, Featured, HTC   at: 2:20 pm Leave a Comment »

A picture is worth a thousand words, no? According to HTC, “In this position, you will join HTC America, Inc. at one of its most exciting phases.”

And just as a note, the job was posted on February 10th. How coincidently comical.

Windows Phone 7 Series. It’s a lot to say, but brings a lot to the mobile computing scene. Windows Phone 7 will bring a Zune-influenced UI, and has completely ditched Windows Mobile touches all together. Windows Mobile is dead. Windows Phone 7 Series has come to life. Debuted at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Microsoft wants to be a major player, and partnerships with carriers and manufacturers is far and wide: AT&T, Deutsche Telekom AG, Orange, SFR, Sprint, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, Telstra, T-Mobile USA, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone, while hardware partners include Dell, Garmin-Asus, HTC, HP, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Qualcomm.

Third-party handsets will not appear at MWC, but Microsoft is showing off its dev units of unknown originality. A main feature that will be present in all Windows Phone 7 Series phones is a high res touchscreen, three front-facing buttons (back, start, and perhaps a Bing key), and minor additions from the handsets themselves. Besides this, there will be strict requirements for specs in the phones (CPU speed, memory, resolution, aspect ratio, multitouch, and even button placement), and 3rd party UIs no more. No TouchWiz 3.0, no Sense UI.

As for social integration, it will be like XBOX on a phone, with LIVE games, avatars, and profiles, all being present, and also things like the Zune HD’s FM Radio. Social networking will get you integrated contact pages which will be present on the new “tile” UI. These “tiles” will be widgets, shortcuts, links to contacts, and all scroll vertically. As for the Outlook email app, which of course has support for Exchange, makes Blackberry email users look questionable.

The browser is Internet Explorer, and will not be as fast as Apple’s Mobile Safari, but will have multitouch right out of the box. Last but not least, all Windows Marketplace apps from previous versions will not be compatible in Windows Phone 7 Series. Sorry devs, it’s for the better. But the new Marketplace will still be where you download apps, once they’re available.

All in all I am in awe from Windows Phone 7 Series, and now we officially have 3 main players in the smartphone market — Apple, Google, and — Microsoft. Windows Phone will debut this holiday season in handsets that support it. Press release after the jump.

Google Buzz Launches: Google Goes Twitter

By Stefan Etienne Filed under: Featured, Google, Web 2.0   at: 2:42 pm Leave a Comment »

Google Buzz. That’s the name of the new built-in Gmail service from Google. Buzz is used on a computer, and basically combines RSS with social networking at buzz.google.com. The five main features of Buzz are:

  • Automatic friends list (all people you’ve emailed are automatically friends)
  • “Rich fast sharing” squishes things like Twitter and Picasa into a single feed which allows full-size image browsing
  • Public and private sharing (between family and friends)
  • Inbox integration (instead of emailing you every time you have an update, like Facebook, Buzz’s emails update with all new content inside of the email)
  • “Recommended Buzz” puts friend-of-friend content into your feed; say for example you have a friend, Google Buzz recommends your friend’s friends (catchy huh?)

Buzz also works on Android phones and the iPhone from the browser, and offers one-tap location updates. From that point on, Buzz will get local results for anything that you’re looking for.  I’ll be putting up the new Google Buzz videos courtesy of Google in a couple of minutes. [Google Buzz. How Would You Change This: Nexus One

By Stefan Etienne Filed under: Android, Featured   at: 10:40 am Leave a Comment »

Besides my original idea “Did You Know?I’ve wanted to experiemnt with another idea: “How Would You Change This? It could be anything; from gadgets to laptops, the Web, and others, I’ll ask you what you’d like to be different. So to kick this off I’ll start with (one of) my  favorite phones: the Nexus One.

With a 1Ghz Snapdragon chip, Android 2.1, 3G, a 5MP camera, Google’s branding, and its gorgeous looks, how would you change the Google Nexus One? For example, would you market the Nexus One more effectively? Or would you completely revamp the design? Would you remove the trackball? Or would you have included multitouch from the beginning? Leave your response in the comments below.

As far as my research can tell, IE8 is one of the most popular web browsers around. Who doesn’t know that? It also happens to be the one that doesn’t support proper web standards. And since LaptopMemo does, it looks, well, crappy. Chrome, Safari, and Firefox work like a dream on LaptopMemo, and because of that I will not be recoding the site for use on Internet Explorer 8 until a solution can be found. IE is nearly unusable, and if you try to use it, it’s a hopeless experience. So I would suggest you switch your browser, so that not only you can enjoy LaptopMemo to its fullest extent but other tech sites as well. Thanks.

UPDATE: Well, if you use IE8, you can tell that everything works now.

Starting the day off here was a pretty slow start, but now with our first impressions on the new Arrandale chips on the Dell Inspiron 15, I think things are a little less boring now. So far, so good with the new Core i5 processor; closing and opening applications are a thing to marvel at, which is complemented by the 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 15.6-inch HD 720p screen, despite it creating some amounts of glare. It’s truly a step up for Dell. For its size it comes well equipped with an ATi 4330 graphics card and HDMI port. Keyboard is comfy, even with the added numpad. Expect the full review later this month, but in the meantime, feast your eyes on the gallery after the break. Oh, and thanks to Dell for sending this thing in.

Yes, it’s the Apple iPad. A tablet, which looks like a big iPod Touch. Are you surprised? It’s a “very thin” device at 0.5-inches, as according to Steve Jobs, runs iPhone OS, and you can now add desktop backgrounds to your homescreen. Multimedia is one of the main features of the iPad; watching movies, the full iTunes Store, access to YouTube, in HD, an awesome Email experience, improved Calendar, iPhoto, Maps, an e-reading app called iBooks, iWork for the iPad which has a new UI, and a giant on-screen QWERTY keyboard. The Apple iPad’s screen size is 9.7-inches, and has the same home button a la iPod Touch or iPhone. As for old iPhone apps, it can run them out-of-the box, because you can now make an app go fullscreen. Read on to see what makes the iPad awesome and its press release.
