Dell announces their own ultrabook for $999 — the XPS 13

This is the Dell XPS 13 ultrabook. It sports a weight of 2.9 pounds, the laptop is .71 inches at its thickest point and .24 inches at its thinnest, with room for USB 3.0, USB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone, and MiniDisplay ports (sadly excluding an SD card slot, however). Other core specifications include a base Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD storage, a standard backlit keyboard and the  slightly disappointing 1366 x 768-resolution 13.3-inch display, which has been covered in Gorilla Glass for added protection. And yet, there are still more technical terminologies I must speak of: the XPS 13 also has Intel HD 3000 graphics, a 47Wh battery rated for up to eight hours, Bluetooth 3.0, and finally Intel’s SmartConnect, which automatically finds the right network for you to connect to and updates your email and calender, alongside the usual Rapid Start tech.

The XPS 13 ultrabook launches in February starting at $999.

Almost Forgot: Dell’s XPS 15z, One Of The Thinnest 15-Inchers Around

Today has been a doozy of tech news, and Dell is just continuing the cycle. The XPS 15z is a .97-inch 15-inch machine that has taken extreme cues from the Macbook Pro design. Starting at a very reasonable $999, the entry-level XPS 15z has a 2nd-gen Core i5 processor clocked at 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz, 6GB of DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 1GB graphics with Optimus, a 15.6″ HD (at 720p, can be upgrade to 1080p) WLED Display with 1.3 megapixel webcam, a 500GB 7,200rpm hard drive, slot-loading DVD drive, WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0, a fully-backlit keyboard, and a purported 8 hours of battery life on a single charge.

For a $1000, that’s a lot of bang for your buck, but until I try one out for myself (or you do), then you can’t be too sure. Via: Dell

Dell Venue Pro Review

Another Windows Phone 7 device, this time, the Dell Venue Pro. It has one of the most beautiful designs of any WP7 device, users a 4.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera with 720pHD video recording, and the recent NoDo update which adds copy-and-paste. Check out the rest of the review after the break, where I figure out that Dell’s first great smartphone entry is a win in many areas, but a slight flop in others.

Alienware M14x And M11x R3 Announced: Awesomesauce Starts Here

My favorite gaming computer company has something new to debut, and that warrants instant coverage here on LaptopMemo. And this is just perfect: the Alienware M14x and updated M11x. Starting at the decent $1,199 price point, you get 6.45 pounds of weight for a Sandy Bridge 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 processor (up to 2.9 GHz of TurboBoost) with 6MB of cache, 4GB of DDR3 RAm at 1600MHz, a 1.5GB Nvidia Optimus graphics setup (Nvidia GeForce GT 555M), a 500GB 7,200RPM hard drive (6GB per second transfers), 14-inch 1366×768 WLED backlit screen (a $75 upgrade gets you a 1600×900 screen), slot load DVD drive, comes in red or black, and a Intel Wireless-N WiFi card which supports a/g/n radios. In short, it’s quite a powerful rig. And I love the way it looks.

Second is the M11x R3, a laptop which I’ve given so much praise for that even Alienware notices (what’s the problem, it’s awesome guys!?!). The new M11x comes in red or black, Sandy Bridge-generation processors, along with a new graphics card (the Nvidia GeForce 540M in Optimus configuration), 7,200RPM hard drives, and so on (some of the same configuration possibilites as before). It also is to be noted that both systems have support for Verizon 4G LTE and WiMAX, as well as WirelessHD technology for sending images to a monitor or TV, so that’s a plus as well. The M11x R3 starts at $999, the M14x at $1,199 and both are available for purchase today. Press release after the jump.

Dell Streak 5 With Android 2.2: Just Froyo With A Poorly-Lit Stage

Remember, back in the day? No, that didn’t come out right.

Remember when the only option for an Android tablet was a 5-inch, well-built, but slightly out of place phone/tablet first called the Dell Mini 5, then renamed to the Streak? Yes, I’ve reviewed it back in August – been there, done that. But Dell was kind enough (or just desperate) to get the Streak a meaningful place in the world, so they slapped Android 2.2 on it, and outed the Streak 7 as well. This may not be part of the abyss of reviews one might see for the newer and cooler, Streak 7, but it shares the same interface in a smaller package, so please continue. (more…)

Dell Streak 7 out February 2nd, $200 on contract, $450 off contract on T-Mobile

Anyone remember the Dell Streak? If you do, just think bigger by about 2 inches or so. The Streak 7 uses Android 2.2 with the Dell Stage UI, has HSPA+ “4G” capability with speeds up to 21MBps, a dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 16GB of internal storage, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera with a 5MP on the back, and pricing at $200 on contract or $450 without. Considering a review of the Streak 5 with the same Stage UI is coming soon (or should have been published as of yesterday here), you can expect a Streak 7 review won’t be that far off. Via: T-Mobile

Dell Streak 7: On T-Mobile, It’s Official, Has 4G, And Uses Tegra 2 Dual-Core

T-Mobile just sent out the awesome presser for its Dell Streak 7 tablet. First off, the Desll Streak 7 uses a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 7-inch Gorilla Glass screen, Android 2.2 (with Dell’s very pretty skin), and HSPA+ (T-Mobile calls it 4G) speeds of up to 21Mbps. The Dell Streak 7 will be at “T-Mobile stores across the country in the coming weeks.” Another tidbit of news inside of the Streak 7 announcement is that the overall speed of the T-Mobile 4G network has been increased, and can now go up to 42Mbps. Press release is with the rest of the post.
