Look, a touchscreen laptop from Dell! Okay, that’s not big news, but it’s news nonetheless. The Studio Touch 1558 seems to pack in a Core i5 processor, Windows 7 Home Premium OS and 320GB hard disk for a $999 starting price. The Dell Studio Touch 1749 also made an appearance and has a MSRP of $1049, but there’s very little to no details on these 2 new lappies, so we’ll leave it at that until there’s a press release or something like that.

A great thing to know indeed. While we are patiently waiting for the Dell Mini 5 to launch (even though we don’t know when) Dell’s very own Neeraj Choubey, GM of Dell’s tablet division, served up the scoop to Wired and said that there will be “a family of tablets” which will “scale up to a variety of sizes.” (They probably would all run Android) He also reveals that there will be “inexpensive data plans” with the new slates, much like what Apple plans for the iPad. Although I do think a lot of carriers are going to get a grudge when they have to provide “cheap” data plans to a large range of users. The buck doesn’t stop there though; the exec had a separate interview at Laptop, and said AT&T would be providing that coverage to Dell Mini 5 users. Who knew? Now Choubey, wanna give us that release date?

Starting the day off here was a pretty slow start, but now with our first impressions on the new Arrandale chips on the Dell Inspiron 15, I think things are a little less boring now. So far, so good with the new Core i5 processor; closing and opening applications are a thing to marvel at, which is complemented by the 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 15.6-inch HD 720p screen, despite it creating some amounts of glare. It’s truly a step up for Dell. For its size it comes well equipped with an ATi 4330 graphics card and HDMI port. Keyboard is comfy, even with the added numpad. Expect the full review later this month, but in the meantime, feast your eyes on the gallery after the break. Oh, and thanks to Dell for sending this thing in.

With all of the buzz surrounding the M11x, the smaller sibling of the Alienware gaming notebook line, the M15x had to eventually come in and show which notebook can really perform. The Alienware M15x is all about power. And only power. It weighs a full 9 pounds with a 9-cell battery installed. And a side note for you all: you’ve probably read a thousand reviews of the M15x with a Core i7 processor, but have you ever read one with a 2.0 GHz Intel Core i7? Not many of those for sure. That’s why it’s the most powerful (and awesome looking) ever featured on LaptopMemo. Full review of course is after the jump.

So here it goes. Everything said in the previous post on the M11x stands the same, for $799 you’ll get the Pentium SU4100 processor, for an extra $100 you’d get the far superior Core2Duo SU7300. Starting price includes 2GBof DDR3 RAm at 800Mhz, and for $350 you can get 8GB DDR3. As for the hard drive, it starts at a 160GB SATAII hard drive, and up to a 500GB SATAII (7200 RPM) for $150. It ships on March 1st.
So basically you’ll have to spend $1000 or more to actually get the gaming power that you need, which really wasn’t what came in mind when we heard it at CES. Nevertheless, it’s a good buy. [Dell]

Besides all of the media frenzy on Dell’s 11.6-inch gaming “netbook”, the Alienware M11x, which packs in a Nvidia 335M graphics chip, we have all pondered to know what is the release date, and secondly, we’ve wanted more details. Well probably this short slide has a couple of those answers. First and foremost, the M11x will ship with either a Pentium SU4100 or Core2Duo SU7300 processor, which further baffles competitors on how much power is actually in this thing. Afterwards, there’s evidence of it shipping on Feb. 5th, or sometimes after. Third, that $799 price point doesn’t seem to happy at this point, because according to the shot, the M11x starts at $899, probably with the Pentium chip. So there you go, hopefully more will leak out later. [Sina via Engadget]

Dell’s Snapdragon-powered slate, the Dell Mini 5 happened to be in Michael’s pocket at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where Michael Arrington from TechCrunch happened to notice. You can guess what’s next: he said that the Mini 5 is coming “in a few months”. Just as a recap of sorts, the Mini 5 is a slate that has a 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU, Android 1.6 with 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G. As for pricing, it probably will cost $1,098 before carrier subsidy, which is a lot of cash for a 5-inch slate, and we can only demand hope it will be cheaper when it comes to the States. Back at CES when the M11x was announced, it was said it would have a price mark of “under $1000″. And the base price? $799. So let’s get this straight: 11.6-inch display, NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics and a 6.5 hour battery, all only for $799? And some people daresay call it the hideous name “netbook”?
The Alienware M11x, with over 6.5 hours of battery life and weighing under 4.5 lbs. will start at an amazing $799! Leave it to the folks at Alienware to enable truly mobile performance gaming at an affordable price.
Also, it’s an interesting place where this was found, because you’ll have to visit the microsite, then check the page source, and only then will you see the magical $800 price mark. What’s not to like here? Oh, and take that, iPad.

Just the time when Dell is going to send LaptopMemo an Alienware M15x (or M17X for that matter) for review, Dell issues a BIOS upgrade that renders users’ machines unusable. Multiple users report that the upgrade only allows you to get past the POST screen — then zip. Zero. Nothing. One user is actually saying that Dell will send him a new motherboard that he’ll install himself. Best tip of the week by the way: do not upgrade your M15x’s BIOS. ‘Kay? Thanks. In the meantime you can wonder what’s going on at the Dell QA forums.

Fresh from CES, the Dell Streak Tablet Concept is a sleek looking handheld. So far from what the skimpy details say, the Streak runs on Android aaannnd — that’s it. So check out the super glossy gallery of the Dell Streak, which looks exactly like a giant iPod Touch with a Dell badge on it (just kidding).
