Say Hello To The HTC EVO 4G LTE On Sprint

This is the latest HTC Android 4.0 device, with traits seen in the One series. First off, there’s 4G LTE provided by Sprint, a 4.7-inch HD display, HD voice call capabilities (the first Sprint device with this feature), a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a very large 2000mAh embedded battery and dual-cameras (8-megapixel rear-facing and 1.3-megapixel front-facing) with instant capture capability, as well as the kickstand employed in the previous top-range EVO devices.

Software-wise, HTC has employed the Sense 4.0 UI on top of Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and Beats Audio sound optimization. The HTC EVO 4G LTE will launch at $199.99 in Q2 with pre-orders beginning on Monday, May 7th, all for the impressive speeds and aluminum spaceframe with an anodized black finish. Very nice, HTC.

Instagram Has Finally Launched On Android (Eyes-On)

This is Instagram for Android. It’s one of the best-designed Android apps out there, and does exactly what it is supposed to do: allow the user to take photos and add filters to create even more beautiful images, which can then be shared on a variety of popular social networks. Also, now that the Instagram app is no longer an iOS exclusive, a massive influx of users to the platform will emerge.

Just like the iOS version, the app is designed to have five categories -- home, popular, shoot, news, and profile. These five do the exact some things as the iOS version, and mostly all the buttons and animations are tailored (with taste) to fit Android, but again, still is very sharp; the quintessential of Android app design. In my side-by-side comparisons of the app with the iOS version, the Android version does tend to lag by a second or so when applying filters or publishing an edited photo, but to a native Android user, that would be virtually unnoticeable. It seems that as a whole, the only thing the app is missing from the iOS version is tilt-shift and vignetting (which can easily be added with an update).

And of course, I wholeheartedly recommend Instagram for Android to anyone, and everyone. It’s fantastic.

Tweetdeck Is Down After Bug Opens Other User’s Accounts

This goes into a major list of bizarre bugs that the tech industry has ever seen in software. Within the hour (as of time of this writing), Tweetdeck has been taken offline due to a report originating from Australia detailed how a single user could access hundreds of other user’s account from the start of the “New Tweet” page, obviously a severe bug in the app. Via: TechCrunch, Official Tweet

TweetDeck is now back online.

As soon as we learned about the issue today, we took TweetDeck down to diagnose the situation. We discovered a bug that caused a very small number of TweetDeck users to have access to other TweetDeck users’ accounts. (The accounts that could be accessed were random; it was not possible to select specific accounts and access them.)

No one’s password was compromised, and we aren’t aware of any instances where this access was used maliciously. As a precaution, we removed account credentials associated with affected TweetDeck users; they will need to log in to authorize the TweetDeck application to access their accounts.

Grr: Android 4.0.4 Only Out For GSM Nexus S And Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ , Not LTE Variant

This is getting on our (read: my) nerves. Both the Sprint Nexus S and the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus seem to be the second-class citizens that the other Android devices are, as they never receive updates, such as the new Android 4.0.4 which adds smoother screen rotations, camera fixes, stability improvements, and numerous other bug fixes and tweaks to Ice Cream Sandwich that have long been asked for. For those of you that do have an HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus or a GSM Nexus S (meaning with SIM card), then the update is freely available to you, unless the download has not come down to your handset, since updates like these are gradually rolled out to the masses.

Nokia Lumia 900 available on AT&T for $99.99 on April 8th

Oh, ’tis wonderful. Nokia and AT&T have finally come out with a solid release date for the Nokia Lumia 900 with 4G LTE. It will retail for $99.99, which is extremely aggressive considering it is a flagship phone (with the specs to back it) and launches this coming April 8th. Both the black and cyan versions launch the 8th, whilst the white version launches on April 22nd. Pre-orders start online and in stores this Friday, March 30th.

With all of that comes the dawn of a (possible) reign from Microsoft and its Windows Phone software backed by Nokia, since the Lumia 900 is such a formidable smartphone. Video after the break. Via: AT&T

HTC and Sprint have NYC event planned April 4th, could announce One X

Both HTC and Sprint will hold a joint operation event on April 4th, in New York City. The exact device (or devices, even) have not even been teased by the companies, including Sprint CEO Dan Hesse and HTC President Jason Mackenzie, both of whom will be on hand at the event. A possible (and coat this with a grain of salt, as it where) announcement is the HTC One X, an incredible Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0 smartphone, containing a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 4.6-inch 720p high-definition display and the class-leading 8-megapixel camera powered by HTC’s dedicated ImageChip.

On April 4th, we shall see.

Apple Sells 3 Million New iPads Worldwide Since Launch

Apple’s Fifth Avenue store sold 13,000 new iPads in 12 hours, or 18 per minute. However, that is just a tiny sliver of the 3 million new iPads sold worldwide since launch, which was the 16th of March (just last Friday). How are these numbers so amazing? The original iPad took 80 days to sell 3 million units. Very impressive, Tim Cook and Co.; press release after the break.

Yahoo! Sues Facebook For Patent Infringement, In Almost Every Form

In the recent shakeup at Yahoo!, management has been evaluated over and over again. In this particular lawsuit, Yahoo! is suing Facebook in patent infringements left and right, and that the 10 infringed patents include privacy measures to messaging, social networking in itself, the News Feed, user profiles, and its advertising methods. The real question here is if Yahoo! will win its case — in which none of us can give a very clear answer. However, Yahoo! seems very confident, stating that it is ”compelled to seek redress in federal court,” and adding that it’s “confident” it will prevail. Hmph.

On the flipside of things, Facebook says that it is “disappointed that Yahoo’s effort to engage with us was limited to a few short phone calls and that we continue to learn of new developments about a long-time partner through the press,” adding that “we will defend ourselves vigorously against these puzzling actions.” The usual friendly jargon used to ensure nothing wrong is said, yet nothing too right is said, either.
