BlackBerry PlayBook Now On Sprint, If You Care

The good old (I meant new) PlayBook is on Sprint now for $499 and is the 16GB Wi-Fi version with the following specs: 7-inch 1024 x 600 WSVGA display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, support for 1080p HDMI-out, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat, 1GB of RAM, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR support. If you’re into a 4G WiMAX PlayBook, Sprint promises to release one by summer. PR after the jump.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 Has Been Delayed Till September, Certain People Yawn

So for some reason unbeknownst to people and the press, the Bold 9900 that would throw Research In Motion (RIM) into the modern smartphone market for real this time has been delayed until September. Oh well.

Microsoft Has Made Bing The Default Search Engine For BlackBerry

BlackBerry has been Bingified. It’s more of a curse (or is it?) really. Who here really enjoys Bing Search and Maps as much as Google Search and Google Maps? That’s right, only a few. Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer has made it clear that Bing will be the primary search and maps provider for all BlackBerry devices and will be integrated int the OS itself. Whether this is good or bad (in my opinion, not so cool) it’s a valuable investment from Microsoft against iOS and Android by competing with Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry 7. Time will tell what this brings. Image via: @dcseifert

BlackBerry PlayBook Users Will Soon Have Access To Facebook App And Video Chat

Starting tomorrow, BlackBerry PlayBook users (I guarantee you, there are some) will have access to an app via the BlackBerry App World (or via an over-the-air update) that adds video chat to their PlayBooks, which works only over WiFI, then sometimes this week an official Facebook app will be available, which also lets you chat with friends, and do the usual Facebooky things that you may or may not already do. RIM Brings The BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 To The Fight, With BB7

This BlackBerry may have been ages in the making, but it’s finally here, and is the first BlackBerry to actually have some sort of competitive feel to it, to try and take a slice out of iOS, Android, or even Windows Phone 7. Specs of the Bold 9900/9930 include a blazing 1.2GHz processor, 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with 640×480 resolution, full QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, 8GB of onboard storage, NFC technology, and the new BlackBerry 7 operating system, which has no backwards support for previous handsets, meaning that if you have a Bold 9780 (for example), there will be no BB7 for you. This is also the only BlackBerry I’d ever suggest getting, albeit that statement probably would have had a hard time showing up here.

RIM states that the new Bold 9900/9930 will debut with “carriers around the world” starting this summer. Press release, after the break.

RIM Sold 45,000 PlayBooks On Launch, According To Some Analyst

Since the PlayBook didn’t launch with much fanfare among the gadget reviewer community, sales are expected to be lower than previously estimated by RIM, right? Well, according to Peter Misek of Jeffries & Co., RIM sold an estimated 25,000 units in pre-orders and another 20,000 in retail stores. Keep in mind the iPad 2 sold 300,000 units in its first weekend and all the other Android tablets probably less than 45,000 (but that’s just an estimate, right?).

BlackBerry PlayBook Teared Down By iFixit, As Usual

The newest trend in technology journalism — write a post about how iFixit took apart the latest gadget. OK!

So they did. And everything RIM says is in the PlayBook actually is there. iFixit also mentioned that for the average user, taking apart a PlayBook is rated a 7 out of 10 (10 being the easiest, 1 the hardest) and that the front panel of glass is not fused to the rest of the tablet, so a shattered screen could be easily replaced without much annoyance and/or money. Check out the source link for the rest of the teardown!

BlackBerry PlayBook Now On Sale, Starts At $500 For 16GB WiFi Model

So, here it is. A rival tablet produced by RIM, creators of the BlackBerry. The 16GB of storage model with WiFi costs $500, exactly the same configuration and price as the iPad 2. Keep in mind the BlackBerry PlayBook has what some may call “unfinished software” and no native email or calendar apps (which supposedly should be added in a software update). Either way, below are the BestBuy purchase links for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Via: BestBuy (16GB),(32GB)(64GB)
