The iPad 3G is now available

The Wi-Fi + 3G iPad is now available, starting at $629, $729, and $829 for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models respectively. You can grab a prepaid, no contract data plan with AT&T for $14.99 with 250MB of data or $29.99 for an unlimited plan (and I mean really unlimited). Apple Stores will begin stocking them at 5PM, so you can still take part in the chaos.

AT&T stops employee vacation plans for June, probably for iPhone launch

Another iPhone, another press conference, another year of Steve Jobs. This time we’re waiting for the iPhone 4, which will bring in multitasking from the new iPhone OS 4.0. Recently, Steve Job and Co. have reserved their usual spot for announcing new iPhones, and AT&T has just cancelled any plans you had to go on vacation in June, because, year after year, it’s for the iPhone launch.

The good word comes from the anonymous, mysterious, and sometimes strange Boy Genius. To refresh everyone’s memory, the first iPhone was announced in January, then shipped in June; iPhone 3G was announced in June and shipped in July, and the 3GS was announced in June, then was shipped in the same month. Now betting that the iPhone 4 will be announced on June 22th, does anyone have any clues when it will arrive on the shelves?

Samsung Galaxy S dances through the FCC’s ring of tests

Looks like the Samsung Galaxy S didn’t have such a bad time at the FCC, and passed their unnumbered amount of tests. Above is a nice little outline complete with the FCC’s label. Since the FCC is American, that means only one thing: it’s gotta be coming Stateside. Sporting AT&T-friendly bands, 850MHz and 1900MHz, that would mean that in the coming months you could expect it to baffle the Motorola BACKFLIP, AT&T’s first (questionable) Android handset. Now if only AT&T made this real…

AT&T to release an Android phone by Dell called ‘Aero’ (UPDATE: new pics!)

Dell Aero. That would be the re-branding of the Mini i3 that Dell is currently selling in China. Yes, a Dell phone. As much as the thought seems interesting, yet strange, it’s Dell’s bid on an Android smartphone running on a heavily-overhauled custom UI (just look at it!). Right now here’s what AT&T has to say about it:

AT&T also will soon unveil an Android-based smartphone the Dell Aero. This will be Dell’s first smartphone available in the U.S., and will feature a new, beautiful custom user interface developed by Dell and AT&T. To learn more about the Dell Aero, visit www.att.com/aero.

The specs so far: a 3.5-inch nHD touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, GPS, 3G, Flash Lite in the browser, access to 20,00 AT&T mobile hotspots, the claim that it’s the “lightest Android phone”, and social integration much like MOTOBLUR. The site link is live as about now, but with CTIA peeking over the Windows, and this post as a developing story, we’ll know more faster before you can say “Dell Aero” yourself.

UPDATE: We just scored ourselves a few shots of the Aero in the gallery below. Click to embiggen!

Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus hit AT&T “in the coming months”

While me here at LaptopMemo thinks about Palm and sees they could never possibly get out of the hole they’re in to survive unless they come up with some products that people really want to buy this time with a good advertising campaign, Palm is thinking otherwise. “In the coming months” AT&T will also have access to the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, both of which remain unchanged from their Verizon versions. The Pre Plus will retail for $149.99 and the Pixi Plus for a rock-on-bottom $49.99 (with a $100 mail-in rebate and two-year contract of AT&T 3G). As I said earlier the Pre Plus contains the same parts as its Verizon cousin: 16GB  storage, GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1. The Pixi gets 8GB storage, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.1 as well. Having the Pre and Pixi line on 3 different carriers (Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T) should help, if two isn’t enough. One more shot after the break and full press release, cowboys!

Leaked HTC Desire official U.S.A launch round-up

So today’s Saturday; the gadget world has come to a halt, the ninjas and tipsters asleep, and PR people (hello, Sarah!) are checking in and out of Foursquare. In one word, today is a boring news day. Slow Saturday if you will. But not for the HTC Desire, HTC’s fully-branded version of the Nexus One. The Desire packs in the same Snapdragon CPU, 512Mb of RAM, 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with multitouch, Android 2.1, and the new and improved Sense UI. What’s not to love?

Here’s what: There’s doubt it’s coming to the U.S.A. Well, let’s bash that idea, shall we? Boy Genius got himself some pretty good intel regarding a US launch of the Desire (and the Legend, as the Hero2). Afterwards, there was speculation that AT&T’s version would come in a different color variation, then the Silver Desire appeared. But that’s only BG’s intel. Here’s mine:

A pretty good ninja seems to have the goods on a United States Of America HTC Desire launch. And it’s on T-Mobile. There’s also word that several store managers are now training on how to use the HTC Desire and promote it, as well as keep secrecy.  Of course, you could just say, “Hey, maybe it’s just the HTC HD2!”. Wrong. An employee that spoke to a particular manager reported that the device “was large”, ran Android, and was the Desire. The manager also said it was “awesome”.

If it sounds like it, runs Android, and is in this post, it’s that the HTC Desire might be headed to T-Mobile in its original brown coating, while AT&T would get the silver. So the Desire would be featured on two carriers, while it’s Google-branded sibling, the Nexus One, would be on all four major US carriers. Now that was interesting, wasn’t it? Now let’s wait and see if this salt-drizzled rumor turns out to be a Desire in my pocket on either AT&T or T-Mobile networks.

Google Nexus One now with AT&T 3G and Rogers support, we say yes

While this may not be enough to pick up Nexus One sales (since no one knows about the Nexus One yet, unlike the DROID) this will definitely add more users. Now if you visit the familiar Sexy Nexy page, you’ll be greeted with a second type of Nexus One, that is unsubsidized and rocks on with three 3G/UMTS bands (850/1900/2100 MHz) and four different GSM radio frequencies (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), all meaning that AT&T 3G is now is your sights. This also means that Canadians have the Android they’ve been looking for; only drawback is you’ll have to cough up the $500 to get a hold of one, but anything for AT&T 3G, right? Right?

Motorola Backflip doesn’t let non-Market apps in, AT&T doesn’t understand Android

As all of you might know, Google Android is a mobile phone operating system that is open-source. Meaning that developers can develop as much as they please, ideas can be shared, and everything is open. More specifically, by defualt all Android phones allow you to install non-Android market apps.

AT&T has removed that feature. So besides the Backflip looking weird, running Android 1.5, using Yahoo! search instead of Google, AT&T’s bloatware apps that are included in each handset, and now not being able to install non-Market apps is impossible. How much more can you cripple an Android? What’s worse is that other hardware — the Dell Mini 5 for example, and even the HTC Desire — might get the same treatment.

New Rumor: AT&T getting HTC Desire, Sprint gets the Legend as the Hero2

While HTC seemed very keen on saying that the oh-so-wonderful HTC Legend and HTC Desire wouldn’t be making their way to the other side of the pond, a tipster from Boy Genius Report proves otherwise. Google is interested in providing the Nexus One on T-Mobile (as they do now), Verizon Wireless (knew that), and also AT&T (that we did not know). All 3 versions would be sold on the Nexus One web store, but the HTC Desire will be the actual AT&T unit that we’ve heard of. Meaning that the Sense UI, Android 2.1, and all are going to make their way in May or June. Also, the Desire will get a slight touch-up in terms of color or finish. As for the Legend, it will head to Sprint as the Hero2. But just as the original Hero made its way to Sprint, it got some modifications (fugly ones), the Legend would also get a facelift of some sort. Otherwise there’s not timeframe for the Hero2 at all. And as your daily piece of caution: always take rumors with a grain of salt. This could all just blow up in our faces. Just saying.
