The HP Slate Will Run WebOS! And That’s Officially Speaking

According to Monty Wong, vice-president of personal computing systems at HP Taiwan, webOS will be used for HP phones and tablets, but not notebooks. The HP Slate is a tablet, so what gives? WebOS comes to the HP Slate, that’s what.  He also pointed out to Digitimes that the Slate will come out before October, and there will be lots of software support at launch. Sounds all in the positive, (except for Steve Ballmer who wanted an iPad competitor) if you ask your 13-year-old tech journalist.

Steve Jobs’ “Non-Disappointing” Keynote Starts Monday, June 7 For WWDC

Since Steve Jobs has been at the center of things for a while, it’s no surprise he interacts with all of us more than an already social CEO would. Which is also why the bloke claims that the WWDC 2010 conference, where all new iPhones have graced our wallets, and that the whole gig will be “non-disappointing”. Oh yeah? I’ll be waiting then Steve, just make a reply to that email. Press release below:

Apple will kick off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address by CEO Steve Jobs on Monday, June 7 at 10:00 a.m. This year’s WWDC sold out in a record eight days to over 5,000 developers.

The five-day event running from June 7 to June 11, is focused on providing advanced content for skilled developers across five key technology tracks: Application Frameworks; Internet & Web; Graphics & Media; Developer Tools; and Core OS. Video: HTC Evo 4G Rooted Before It’s Even Released To The Public

While most Google I/O attendees are playing with their free Evo 4G night and day, some dudes (a trio of hackers actually), fueled by probably pizza, FroYo (you know, frozen yogurt), and some beer have rooted the Evo 4G to its knees. They’re very quiet when it comes to a release date of the hack, since Sprint could patch it by release, but it’s good to know that these dudes will be looking out for any trouble, and they’ll hack it.

This Actually Looks Really Nice: New Blackberry Bold 9800 Shots Leak

I’ve been bashing the Blackberry 9670, and its cousin, the Bold 9800. But you know what? Throw everything I said into the bin, because according to The Berry Fix, this is a production-level late prototype; something we would see as the final design. Interestingly though, there’s an AT&T splash screen, and according to the source of the leak, not a bit of SurePress to be found anywhere. That’s quite appealing, if you ask me, frankly. White iPhone 4G Spotted: This Is Getting Annoyingly Repetitive

It’s another next-gen iPhone, but in — white. There’s not much else to talk about here, not much interesting here, and not too long until the 15 days passes until we see a new iPhone. Thanks, but no thanks. But at least you can say the new the new iPhone 4 will have a faceplate in white other than the 3GS, which uses black and white on the back.

Google Adds Encrypted Search With SSL. Not Bad.

Do you feel you’re being monitored while performing Google searches? Do you feel the almost stupid need to have it in SSL format? Google’s got you covered: a secured version of their web search using SSL. While this locked-up version of the world’s favorite search engine doesn’t seem as nifty as its open cousin, there’s no doubt a lot of Googlers will be Googling without getting their searches Goggled on by third-parties. Here’s what they had to say about the latest Google beta feature:

This secured channel helps protect your search terms and your search results pages from being intercepted by a third party on your network [...] Google will still maintain search data to improve your search quality and to provide better service. Searching over SSL doesn’t reduce the data sent to Google — it only hides that data from third parties who seek it.

Hey, This Looks Like The Verizon Motorola Droid Shadow (for crying out loud)

Hey there, kind reader. See that up there? That’s the Motorola Shadow. Or in other words, the Motorola Droid Shadow. With an appearance of a regular Moto Droid but with a 4.3-inch touchscreen and an updated MOTOBLUR UI, there are the familiar four buttons that Android uses on its high-end phones, though one of them seen above is only present on MOTOBLUR-skinned phones, further confirming that this is a new MOTOBLUR that is upon us. Other than that, the filename is “Shadow” and you see the “DROID” branding above. Otherwise, “wnrussell” at HowardForums has done good work.

Android 2.2 manual update file found, works on a non-rooted Nexus One

Desperate? If you have a Nexus One that is not-rooted (at all!) and has the “ERE27 system”, then you’re as good at FroYo. Manual updates are quite easy, and you can download the update through the most trusted source: Google’s direct servers. Check out the source links for the download and instructions.
