Obama Signs Off Communications Satellites: Now They Can Be Exported

Satellites In SpaceRecently, President Obama has signed a defense bill reverts the ban and reclassifies communications satellites as civilian technology. This allows for American companies to build and export them to other countries. The move allows companies that build communication satellites to further expand their project, but there are certain limits, including Boeing not being able to export satellites to China, North Korea, or Iran. This industry is happy about it however: “This is a tremendous assist for an industry that is inherently international,” the president of the Satellite Industry Association told The New York Times, “it will ensure our place at the forefront of space.”
