The definition of great earnings has many different angles and hues. Microsoft took the quarterly liberty of posting theirs and it turns out that had a net loss of $192 million from the previous last three months. The flipside of that being Microsoft did gain $18.06 billion of revenue, beating the previous quarter’s $17.41 billion earnings report. The reason for Microsoft’s multi-million dollar loss woes is due to a writedown from its failed acquisition of aQuantitative.
But in traditional Microsoft fashion, it gets brushed off by their CEO, Steve Ballmer:
“We delivered record fourth quarter and annual revenue, and we’re fast approaching the most exciting launch season in Microsoft history,” said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft in a canned statement. “Over the coming year, we’ll release the next versions of Windows, Office, Windows Server, Windows Phone, and many other products and services that will drive our business forward and provide unprecedented opportunity to our customers and partners.”
Now to see if all of those upcoming products truly make Microsoft the most exciting company of 2012.
