When I use an Android handset (and when you do too) the first thing you can ask yourself is: what’s the best Twitter client? Seesmic is the usual answer; it has multi-account handling, a slick UI, a widget offering, and tons of settings. But now, there’s a new guy on the block, made by Twitter themselves.
Twitter for Android is free, and works on Android 2.1-only handsets (bummer I know). The Twitter for Android app has all of your favorite functions from most apps, and includes one of the cleanest UIs you could find in an Android app.
Or you could just say Tweetie for Android is here, since Tweetie is the best Twitter-focused iPhone app out there (which Twitter also bought and will be rebranding Twitter for iPhone). Here’s an excerpt from the Twitter blog were the app was announced:
Twitter for Android is a fantastic application to use, and sharing any link or photo is super simple too – just look for the share button in your favorite application and choose Twitter.
Reading tweets is easy in a bunch of places on your phone. Quickly access your timeline with the home screen widget, view a tweet location on a map, and see your friend’s latest tweet in your phonebook, GoogleTalk list or any application that uses Android’s QuickContact bar.
The app is now available on the Android Market for Android 2.1 devices, and costs a cheap $0.00.
