For those of you who are Android fans, this could be monumental. A year into the Apple App Store’s coming into exsistence, it carried about 50,000 apps, but for Android, it’s 20,000 strong (which is okay I suppose). What makes this more fascinating is that according to AndroidLib, about 62.2% of all Android apps are free, with only 37.8% being paid apps. In contrast, the App Store has over 100,000 apps, with 77% which are pay-only, with only 30% of total App Store downloads are for paid apps. What this means is that the Android developers have a big war to fight, and it won’t end quickly.
